Picked up a stereo copy of Piper today. $30. It's got Dave Gilmour on the cover, with the rest of the band in front of a large glass building.

0062-04292. Yellow Columbia Label with white wording.

Did some research and saw this came out in 1971. No way is my copy 44 years old. I'm hoping someone will tell me this is a reissue and not a pirate.

    Would appreciate any thoughts.

It's only apparently an official Italian release.

I trust Vernon, but my first instinct was 'boot'. ;)

The OT lives in the US, but the smell of bootleg feels even here in Italy!

Seriously speaking: the first Italian pressing must have:
    • the SIAE stamp of the first type
    • matrix numbers as following: 04292 - A - 22-4-71 I / 04292 - B - 22-4-71 I (both stamped)
Two monster-rare Italian editions was released at that time: the earliest one had black Columbia label with silver text; the second release had blue-white Columbia label with black text.

Now, I don't know if somewhere this album was recently officially re-released with a reproduction of the historical and unique Italian cover; surely here in Italy this album has never been reissued combined with this cover.

It is most certainly not a first press, my eyes aren't good enough to read the stampers but they are not as listed above (too short).
Also the album is not 44 years old. And I got it for $30 US. Really just hoping it was a legit reissue from the last 20 years or so.

Guess I'll see how it sounds.....

It may [or may not] be of interest that the amazing structure behind the band on this sleeve ,is the Palm House at Kew Gardens .This alien spaceship looking glass house was constructed 1844-1848.
Its about 20 miles from where I live.

Just curious what does it mean on discogs where it says "Exact copy of a first pressing"

AFAIK, this was an official release in Italy, but I have seen quite a few counterfeit releases here and there. Those look too new to be genuine of course.
Pretty daft to use a cover like that on an official release of Piper btw.

The Italian mafia were big into bootlegs in Italy in the 70s & 80s

How did they press these 80s records like this one and the fame label version? Needledrops? Sourced from CD?

I see a lot of fakes still coming out of Italy. Aussie band only releases CDs and then I see it available on Vinyl.........but only in Italy. Sorry, I'm not buying anything from there.

Is the 80's fame version digital?
