£162 for Metal Box on vinyl. From Universal. This is a no-brainer.

*clutches Second Edition and is happy again *

Whoasers! $83.00 extra clamoleons just for the actual metal box itself (in comparison with the price of the "Album" 4xLP set.) Thinkin' I'll be going for the CD sets (I want the full tracklist material anyway) when I find these at nicer prices.

There are a bunch of single tracks that can be collected together:
Death Disco (four versions: 7" mix, 1/2 Mix, Megga Mix, Monitor Mix)
    No Birds Do Sing
    Memories (single version)
    Another

Then the 1979 Peel Session and maybe 'Pied Piper' (was that an outtake from these sessions)? Almost all of these are available cheap on Plastic Box, however.

The recent release of the nine-minute 'Monitor Mix' of 'Death Disco' suggests that there might be more alternate versions in the vaults.

It was released as a 12" for RSD a couple of years ago (as Death Disco (Monitor Mix))

The CD set for Metal Box is a no-brainer for me, it's easily my favorite of any John Lydon associated release and I'd never bothered with Plastic Box so the extra tracks plus the live set are completely new to me. The Album deluxe set, well...I'm a bit on the fence about. I'd never really been that into the album but if the price drops enough as the holidays approach, I might suck up the price to get the live set.

I wonder if it will have a facsimile of the December 1979 NME ad that had the lyrics.

Again, it's not just a reissue of Second Edition. Second Edition made some changes to the track running order, but this reissue uses the original order from Metal Box.

I never bought it but you are right, there was a lot of flack at the time about the difficulties in getting the records out of the canister.
I bought Second Edition a few months later.
Didn't the canisters go rusty after a while?
Anyway I absolutely loved this album when it was released...

I don't keep the records in the tin (which is very rusty) I keep them in separate sleeves, I have the first pressing of the cd in a tin and it too is tarnished, the 4MWB and the 2 later "tin" cd releases are untarnished however.

They probably want to keep the original Metal Box a unique release.

I notice the Memories 12" is included. I wonder if this will be a needle drop, or if they eventually found a master tape? I always preferred it to the Metal Box version.

Pied Piper was originally released on a Various Artists Virgin compilation. It's a short, but great track. It actually sounds like a Commercial Zone outtake, but a PIL buff would know better than me.

That square Metal Box looks awful. Terrible idea, like putting a square wheel on a car.

The price is eye watering. I have an original vinyl in the tin which of course sounds great as well as the first cd tin issue so i am happy as i also have Plastic Box for the essential Peel Session.

I might be tempted by the Album cd set as interested in hearing the demos and getting some more John McGeoch material. One of the great guitar players of the ages.

Maybe Johnny can invest the $$ in memory lessons. I swear, one of the biggest concert disappointments I've had is seeing him on the last tour, reading the words off a music stand. :(

Funnily enough he did the same thing on the Old Grey Whistle Test back in 1979!

I'm in for the CD Super Deluxe Editions for both.

I can't believe we're getting releases like these! First the Pistols, now PiL. Even The Professionals got an extensive 3 disc box set!

Every band from the Rolling Stones to Guns N Roses uses teleprompters to read the lyrics from.

I heard Jones and Cook was going to release a new album?

  24. That now it's more of a proper metal box, rather than a film canister or biscuit tin.

The signed editions are already sold out. May I ask how many Signed editions there were available?
