From the reviews... "Pops and clicks throughout the album even after a thorough cleaning of the stylus and vinyl. Not even close to being an 180 gram pressing. Extremely poor pressing. Returned."
Could've got a bad one. Doesn't mean they all are. Edit: it looks like the reviews shown could be any of the pressings out there. They also talk about the box set version
A couple of threads in the Music Corner forum may help (lots of search results for KOB pressings...): Miles Davis "Kind Of Blue" Sony BMG 2015 vinyl reissue » Best Sounding Version of Kind of Blue »
It's up to $11.77, but I figured that I couldn't live with myself if I didn't buy just one more copy of this classic lp!
Not to get off subject... but I'd like to see a system profile for this amazon reviewer! In my experience, "pops and clicks" have no correlation to the weight of the LP. I've had a lot of really quiet Oil Embargo Vinyl and some noisey 180 Gram pressings... How did this reviewer clean his vinyl? And why did he/she clean their stylus, if based on this review they are certain that the vinyl is the culprit and not their system? The fact the reviewer also cleaned their stylus means they at least considered the pops and the clicks were from their setup not the LP. I actually doubt this reviewer even realizes what "180 gram pressing" actually means.
There is more than one recent review (so probably for the Amazon pressing) that complains that the pressing isn't close to 180g...FWIW.
The way Amazon lumps together reviews from different versions under the same item can be very confusing.
It's Amazon, not a respected record seller. This reminds me of the time my step-father expected the kid at K Mart to answer technological camera questions. He was too cheap to go to an actual camera shop, so... I'm a Prime member myself, and I love saving money, but c'mon. .
received my blue copy of KOB today and it was flat, centered, and zero surface noise. KG mastered and pressed at MPO. not too shabby a deal.
Fair enough... mine came yesterday with a sticker on it proclaiming its a 180-gram press.. Again I don't really think weight corresponds with sound, at least in the way this reviewer uses it (suggesting the vinyl was 'nosey' because it wasn't 180 grams). I can put it on a scale to verify if anyone cares enough to know if this pressing is 180 grams. EDIT:: Just to add I haven't opened it yet, when I play it I'll report back if I think its a 180 or not.
Right, that's why I added FWIW. I don't think 180g or not 180g is really here or there, either. I mean, if they advertise it as 180g and it's 120-140g, then that's misleading. But as we mostly know, it's not weight of the vinyl that governs the quality.
I received my copy yesterday and haven't had a chance to open it. Nothing on the outer sleeve mentions blue vinyl. Did I get the correct copy? I won't get to open it until sometime tomorrow.
Just got Legacy blue vinyl Kind of Blue. 144 Grams on my postal scale, which is pretty accurate. Not that I really care that it's 180g, but that some pretty crappy quality control!
