It has a brief trombone solo, and the trombonist wrote the song.

Sublime - Wrong Way ----- Love the trombone solo at 1:30 and the fills to the end.

You could pick many Chicago songs, but I'd go with the horn arrangements on 25 or 6 to 4 and Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is.

Jimmy Pankow was the trombonist who wrote the song in the video above, but he also arranged all the horns for Chicago. Technically "arranging" isn't the same as "writing," though I think it should be. Those horn parts MADE many of those songs. He and I have had some fun talks over the years, with me insisting he deserves a writing credit and Pankow insisting no, that's just not how it works. Great guy.

Thanks. It's the unexpected places, or when they've always been there but you hadn't thought about it, that I was looking for.

I have many of these songs and I'll focus my listening on trombones for a week or two.

    Keep them coming.

As soon as I saw trombone the first thing I thought of was this Soft Machine melody, where they let trombonist Nick Evans take the lead on one of Mike Ratledge's prettiest melodies, "Backwards" starting at 4:30 in this clip.

Here is a notable Pankow feature - he wrote it, sings lead and has a trombone solo.
