I was watching "The Perfect Storm" and remembered how there was a time you couldn't turn around without seeing Mary Mastrantonio and then "poof." This happens a lot. Can anyone think of others who disappeared from the limelight?

Female actors have a much shorter career span in Hollywood with very few exceptions so the list will be unfortunately long.

I seem to remember Bill Paxton or William Fichtner being in almost every blockbuster film in the 90s and early 2000s and not so much now. But maybe I just don't go to as many movies as I did then.

Meg Ryan was queen of rom-coms in the eighties and nineties with When Harry met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle etc. I can't remember the last movie she did. Same with Helen Hunt.

When Mary Elizabeth Winstead came along, Mastrantonio had to go - only room for one Mary Elizabeth in Hollywood! :D

MEM works a lot - just mainly on TV...

Fichtner still shows up in lots of big budget movies - he was in this summer's "Independence Day" sequel, and he did the TMNT movie a couple of years ago and "Lone Ranger" before that. You probably missed him because these movies weren't big hits! :)

You're right about both. I use to crush big time on Meg Ryan. Once the cutest girl in Hollywod. Now, she's trying to hide us from her plastic face

Clara Bow and Buster Keaton don't seem to do a lot of films these days.

That was an era when I was just getting way too many bills . . . Bill Paxton, Bill Pullman, Bill Sadler, Bill Murray . . . bills, bills, bills!

    . . . and the Billys! Let's not get started . . .

  13. Well, once Clara Bow was tagged "it" no one would go near her.

I would've said Geena Davis, but I just saw that she's in an Exorcist tv show that's coming out.

I felt bad for Jake Lloyd, who played Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace. From what I've read, he got raked over the coals by the Star Wars fan base so badly that he walked away from acting. Also, it seems that his life has taken a rough turn in recent years.

  18. She was on "Grimm" for a couple of seasons, "Limitless". It's tough for a women her age to get work even though she looks terrific.

She's worked, aside from a brief break, pretty consistency in TV.

Allow me to be the first to mention Phoebe Cates, because if I don't, someone else surely will.

I don't know. The Hateful Eight was the first film I saw her in since the late 90s.

Bill Paxton really did fall off a lot.

She's been working, but doing smaller art type of films. A great actress; I'm glad she put herself back in a big film. She has done a few episodes of a couple TV shows too...I believe I saw here in a few episodes of Revenge.

He's stayed busy enough. He was the lead role on HBO's "Big Love" for six years.
