HAH! There already WAS a Bowie box set named "Golden Years". Who knew? DAVID BOWIE Golden Years 24K Gold Collection 8 Au20 CD Box Set Ryko Low No. 31 »
Appreciated, and point taken, but it was the 2nd dig in the thread (the other not from you) about "Just goes to show you for not buying physical product." ObBowie: Among the things I do NOT miss about my vinyl days? Those RCA "dynaflex" discs from hell. I get all nostalgic like anyone else about the classic orange labels, but zoom in too close, and the "dynaflex" logo becomes visible? I start to smell sulfur.
But Tidal is offering FLAC for <$60, and it (supposedly) includes Re:Call2, Nassau, both "David Live"s and both Stations. They're not known as a bastion of bargains, so I'm gonna go ahead and guess you only get Maslin, Nassau, and YA. More intriguing is that they're offering "The Platinum Collection" for sale (but as album-only).
WCIBN MP3s back up on Amazon's site. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZA96IW/ref=dm_ws_sp_ps_dp Of note: * Each and every song is available for individual purchase, even those exceeding 10 minutes, even those found on "box only" titles. * Amazon NOW differentiates between the two YA's: There's: "Young Americans (2016 Remastered Version) [Gouster Version]" and: "Young Americans (2016 Remastered Version)"
Now this is what I call a box: "h22p://www.hdtracks.com/who-can-i-be-now-1974-1981" Courtesy - who else? HDTracks....
Someone from HighResAudio messaged me this afternoon. It seems they are as frustrated as us. "Hi Dan, the album is online but we have only released content that is natively 192k - also the track Young Americans is not available to us. All very confusing as always. The labels don't know what they have and supply no details. Very disappointing" Edit: Just had another message after I showed them the new version on Amazon and I said hopefully hi res files may be updated soon to which he replied "My pleasure Dan! We are doing the best that we can and will continue to kick the labels ass Thank you -" So I haven't lost all hope yet.
And you got that info from the Bowie 6 Music BBC radio show Iggy did recently, right? Do you have a recording of the show?
Adding Amazon and Qobuz info. Still no lossless release of the Gouster version of YA. Who Can I Be Now? Release Variants HDTracks 24/96 76 tracks (same YA album mastering on both Gouster and YA) 24/192 49 tracks (same YA album mastering on both Gouster and YA) Acoustic Sounds 24/88.2 76 tracks (same YA album mastering on both Gouster and YA) 24/192 49 tracks (same YA album mastering on both Gouster and YA) HiResAudio 24/192 48 tracks (omits YA from YA album track list, mislabeled Station to Station (2016 remaster) as Maslin mix although tracks say 2016 remaster) iTunes/Google Play/Amazon AAC/MP3 104 tracks (different YA mastering on Gouster and YA album, Amazon designates difference "(Gouster version)") TIDAL MP3/FLAC 16/44.1 104 tracks (same YA album mastering of YA on Gouster and YA) Qobuz FLAC 16/44.1 103 tracks (omits YA from YA album track list)
And I'm Steve Pafford, I was publisher of Crankin' Out, author of the BowieStyle book, writer of sleeve notes for Blondie and The Stooges and journalist for Q, Mojo and Record Collector; don't look me up. In fact don't tell anyone at all. Shhh!
Got the CD a few days ago and I think it's great! I actually like the fact it has the the 'classic' David Live and the 2005 version(which I have in original limited Digipak) as the former has been long deletedand sounds different, therefore it feels like a different CD, the Harry Maslin mix is not THAT awful (I like it) and as for the live '76 CD I don't mind that too much(I may not win any friends saying that on here lol) I do think you get a lot in this set that IS different and I also love 'The Gouster'.At least with this 'new' album you can sort of pretend he is still here :'( I am a huge fan and have been buying bowie CDs for years, my only gripe ist that being just 30 I have not been around long enough to have seen all this.
Perhaps those two files are just missing their filetype extensions. While you're waiting for a response try adding .flac to the file names and see if that works.
I didn't and don't. Will keep an eye out. First heard from a friend in 1996-ish. Then, Iggy's response to his death in Rolling Stone reminded me of my old obsession with the track. Now, every time someone mentions Bowie outtakes, I think about "Running Scared."
These two file names end with ".track_hddownload" instead of ".flac" - I'll try what you suggested though (thank you). Regardless, I'll be getting a revamped version soon, and maybe the missing Gouster version of YA will be included this time.
