For at the pre-Aftermath material, I'd rather have a chronological (by recording date) compilation of every song in mono, plus an extra disc of the relatively few stereo mixes.

well not to give those crooks at abcko any credit ,the Stones US lps aren't like the Beatles US Lps,they not only have singles but lp tracks not on the UK lps ,so doing just the UK lps ,isn't good enough,of course they could have added the US only tracks
and they could have not released all those lps Like Flowers and Hot Rocks ,They also gave us sacd ,something apple didn't

Paint It Black is on the Big Hits (High Tide) mono lp in the box I seem to remember so I think it will be the UK Aftermath I need to get.

I was referring to the 1964-1969 box.

  6. I personally am one who doesn't call any of this greed. Especially in 2016 when it is SO very hard to get people to buy physical product. There are lots of mouths to feed in all this projects that IMHO people fail to consider. Designers, writers, printers, pressing plants, photo retouchers, photo licensing, research, mastering engineers, marketing and promotion and so on.

I agree that it's unfair that a box like this that you can get for around $350. in the USA is $600 in Canada and Europe. Don't understand that, but greed? Really? I don't see it.

Universal or ABKCO (or whoever) could have issued a US albums set with non-album tracks on Stray Cats, but would everyone be happy with that?

Exactly as the 2008 SHM-CD was.

  13. I personally don't care as I just posted in that thread. I saw the film again yesterday in theater . So saw Shea twice in a week and I loved it and probably don't need to see it again for a few years. Having said that, sure, I'd love it to be on the new Blu Ray. Maybe Im out of step here with most of the hard core fans, but I find with all these videos, I wanted maybe two times that hardly ever again.

My buddy and I do pull out the Anthology once a year and watch all ten hours though. We ave a fab time.

I'm sure it will never happen, but this is basically what a "UK albums + bonus tracks" lineup could look like:

    The Rolling Stones
    1. Route 66
    2. I Just Want to Make Love to You
    3. Honest I Do
    4. I Need You Baby
    5. Now I've Got a Witness (Like Uncle Phil and Uncle Gene)
    6. Little by Little
    7. I'm a King Bee
    8. Carol
    9. Tell Me (You're Coming Back)
    10. Can I Get a Witness
    11. You Can Make It If You Try
    12. Walking the Dog

    Bonus tracks:
    13. Poison Ivy
    14. Fortune Teller
    15. Bye Bye Johnny
    16. Money
    17. You Better Move On
    18. Poison Ivy
    19. Not Fade Away

    All tracks mono.

    11. Off the Hook
    12. Susie Q

    Bonus tracks:
    13. It's All Over Now
    14. Good Times, Bad Times
    15. If You Need Me
    16. Empty Heart
    17. 2120 South Michigan Ave [complete]

    21. Congratulations
    22. Everybody Needs Somebody To Love [Now! recording]
    23. Little Red Rooster
    24. Surprise, Surprise

    Tracks 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 13, 15-19 stereo. Remainder mono.

    Out Of Our Heads

    12. I'm Free

    Bonus tracks:
    13. The Last Time
    14. Play With Fire
    15. Satisfaction
    16. The Spider and the Fly
    17. One More Try
    18. Look What You've Done
    19. Get Off Of My Cloud
    20. The Singer, Not the Song
    21. As Tears Go By
    22. Blue Turns to Grey
    23. We Want The Stones
    24. Everybody Needs Somebody To Love
    25. Pain in My Heart
    26. Route 66
    27. I'm Moving On
    28. I'm Alright

    Tracks 10, 13-15, 18, 19 stereo. Remainder mono.

That's all of the UK albums, everything on the US albums, plus the EP tracks (some of which are on the US albums). Stereo where available: the Chess material is folded down in mono anyway, and the RCA material is/would be mono on Singles Collection.

Of course, that omits the faded 2120, the edited Under Assistant, makes the UK versions "correct" when the truth is arguably a bit more complicated, and results in a ton of bonus tracks for each album.

The Beatles catalog is utterly simple in comparison.

    Yes.

Slightly off-topic here, but wouldn't there be little to no point in buying the 2010 box (1964-1969) if one has all of the 2002 SACD's? I assume they used the same digital transfers as were found on all the individual SACD releases - only the formatting is different.

  16. Thanks - I'm fine through the first two LPs, but looking at the U.K. Out Of Our Heads track list again, can't say I'm down with it. You've got stuff separated by about ten months in recording dates all smushed together on one LP (i.e., late '64 tracks like "Hitch Hike" and "Oh, Baby" next to late '65 stuff like "She Said Yeah" and "I'm Free", etc.). Still think the U.S. Out Of Our Heads is probably a little more cohesive.

Also, "Look What You've Done" would make more sense as a No. 2 bonus track, being that it was recorded during their original sessions at Chess.

You're probably right about Look What You've Done. I didn't think of that.

Not sure what to do about the rest though. The albums by their nature are less than cohesive.

Everything recorded at Chess except Everybody Needs Somebody To Love, Heart of Stone, The Last Time, Play With Fire, Satisfaction, and Get Off Of My Cloud, which were done at RCA. The Chess tracks were only mixed to stereo and folded down to mono. The RCA tracks were mixed to mono and stereo.

Bonus tracks appearing on the same discs as original albums will never happen.
The 1970 contract between Klein/Stones, which to this day are in charge, prevent ABKCO to extend any album in tracklisting. Should an expanded version of an original album appear, the bonus tracks will have to appear on a seperate bonus disc.
