Good article! I'd love it if someone compiled a fantasy Rockpile discography the way people cobble together "Beatles" albums out of the best of the solo material. Been on a big Lowe/Edmunds (and Parker) kick lately, so this is right up my alley.

But their live shows are very much worth seeking out.

Don't miss the Carlene Carter album mentioned in the article. I've got to pull that back out soon.

You Want To Know What Love Is? It's Rockpile! ;)

Great one-0ff is Seconds of Pleasure. Sonically, it's very strong on my Canadian and US vinyls.

I was fortunate enough to see them open up for Van Morrison in October of '78. They were an incredible live band!

What an excellent article! And yes, Carlene Carter's "Musical Shapes" is required listening if you dig Nick, Dave and the boys.

Great article and thread. I was lucky enough to see em in 1981. A wonderful show where we all danced from start to finish. The beer helped i guess!

More recently, English singer-songwriter Paul Kennerley emerged with a new project featuring ex-Rockpile guitarist Bill Bremner. This CD was entitled, "Misery With A Beat" and seemed to continue the classic sounds of Rockpile, Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds

Kennerley's songs have been recorded by a wide range of artists including Dave Edmunds, Linda Ronstadt, Waylon Jenings, Marty Stuart, Kenny Rogers, Tanya Tucker, The Judds and most notably, his now ex-wife, Emmlou Harris. Today, Kennerley resides in the U.S. and it's my hope that he will get back to writing and recording another project of his own in the future.

I especially love Rockpile's secret 1979 double album Repeat When Necessary/Labour of Lust which they cheekily released as two different albums under two different pseudonyms ("Dave Edmunds" and "Nick Lowe" respectively) - who do they think they were fooling?

If there was a great band out there that I'd like to see doing stuff again and who could reform with all original members it's Rockpile.

I had the pleasure of seeing them in a club, The Fast Lane in Asbury Park, NJ. A who's who of Jersey musicians gathered for the event. A wonderful time!

Cool, good to know, thanks. If you've ever seen Rockpile live (or on video), you'll know that Bremner was their secret weapon (along with Terry Williams, of course).

I got into Rockpile through the radio, altogether ignorant that Williams (of my beloved Man) was drummer. "Trouble Boys"!
