I had both Mono Box sets on order CD £96, LP £252 from Amazon UK. I decided I didn`t need the LP box so I cancelled.

Did I throw away a bargain? or is the CD box all I need?:confused::confused:

I`m now going to spend that £252.:pineapple::edthumbs::pineapple:

  7. Thanks for the tip. I usually like Paul Weller, but this album seems quite different, more technical and less hand-made music. Not so much my thing, I guess, otherwise I would have certainly picked it up. I still appreciate you posting the deal, and maybe other people like this better than I do.

I LOVED Saturns Pattern. I'm more of a fan of solo Weller than either of his bands (blasphemy, I know), and I'm more of a fan of the earlier solo work, in general. He kind of lost me with 22 Dreams and Wake Up the Nation, but Sonik Kicks had a number of good songs, and Saturn was a great listen, IMO. If your tastes echo mine at all, give it another shot...

Just received the new Fleetwood Mac Mirage box set, delivered by a UPS man. Had to pay over $17 in fees and taxes. This is the first in a long time I had a UPS delivery from Amazon.uk. Kinda wiped out most of the savings. Guess I better look into modifying my address to see if that prevents it happening again. :(:realmad:

Is this UPS issue a Canada-only thing?

I don't think so. Last week I had a couple of vinyl albums from Amazon UK that were wrapped separately and then put together in a larger box and delivered by UPS. I didn't get charged for it though.

The real issue isn't really UPS for Canada in terms of a delivery. It arrives either way. But when something is sent via UPS that has a customs declared value of $20Canadian or more, it results in an automatic tax charge, plus UPS brokerage. When items are sent via regular post they normally slip through. UPS, Fedex, all the same when it comes to being hit for tax and, potentially, duty at the border.

Americans don't suffer the same fate. I do believe there is a limit but it's in the hundreds so most things get by. I can't be sure to be honest, but I read that somewhere.

I agree. I think the issue is that Amazon.co.uk is using other carriers more frequently now than Royal Mail. I just checked my Stones mono box shipping details and it is being sent via DHL. We'll see!

  23. Just got this "Purple Rain" vinyl from Amazon.co.uk

Thanks for the tip. Sounds good to me and easily beats my old target CD.

Thanks for the clarification. Wow. $20? That is ridiculously low.

Yeah. Not only that, but the cost of collecting the duty and taxes is actually higher than the the revenue they collect. There are people who lobbied for an increase in that limit but there's a lot of pressure from retailers to not increase that level.
