Several different versions of this available (used) on Amazon! Again, hurrah! Thanks Matthew.

I wonder how the '74 Welcome Back stuff sounds; one way to find out!

So, any more information on these releases? Has anyone else listened to them and compared with other releases? It sounds like at least some people think the new 2-disc "pictures" sounds better than other versions, but maybe someone else thinks it's the same mastering as before? I can't figure out after having read through the thread. Can anyone clarify?

I don't have CD versions at all of either "Pictures" or "Works" so would like to pick them up at some point, and if these are the ones to go for, that would make it easy.

    Thanks!

Pictures has a brand new remaster done this year and sounds great. I'm not sure if Works will be newly remastered. The live album due out the end of this week is also newly remastered but I'm going to wait for some reviews on that one before I decide if I should buy it. Like I said Pictures is not the older remaster but a new 2016 remaster and sounds wonderful.

Thanks! It sounds like the just released "Pictures" is the way to go, and then wait to see how the other is.

So Works Vol. 1 is not going to receive the surround treatment from Jakko?

  9. I hope that's not accurate. I would love to see the rest the ELP catalogue get the Jakko high resolution treatment. Yes, even Love Beach. :uhhuh:

Love Beach is everybody's favorite whipping boy, but there's no burning in my wallet for a 5.1 of In the Hot Seat either.

Welcome Back is out today. Any takers? I'm very curious how this will sound and if they used that terrible no-noise master for this new edition.

I may pick one up, if it's a new mastering (i.e. not just a repeat of the Shout Factory or whoever...) Hopefully that info is visible on the disc packaging.

I'm pretty sure that Andy Pearce remastered this set this year and it is not just a repackaging of an older remaster.

I'm listening to it on Spotify at the moment, and even on this lossy format it sounds a lot better than the previous remasters. I will be buying it.

I just received it in the mail from Amazon. The sticker indicates it's been remastered ... I hope.

At least on the extremely lossy and compressed free Spotify version, the piano comes across very nice and clean on Take a Pebble, which has not been the case with previous versions. But i guess it's better to wait for a review of the CD version still.

Yes let us know what you think after you've had time to play it and if that dreaded no-noise is detected.

Just purchased Welcome Back ... mere moments ago ...

Hurrah! 2016 mastering, it says (confirming what several here have already said, to give due credit.) Packaging is better than I expected: brown-on-cream disc graphics are like the labels on '70s UK Manticore records (love that!), and there's a nice booklet with photos I haven't seen before. Plus, a lengthy Chris Welch essay ... which I'm sure will be utterly hagiographic, but I don't mind. Old ELP fanboy, me. :)

Dedication is to Keith (RIP), as it obviously should be.

Six long hours, 'til I can terrify my neighbors with a listen ...
