The version of "Machine Gun" on this set is a few minutes shorter than most other performances I've heard.... somehow doesn't seem as "epic" when it's only 8 or 9 minutes. :p

This is a great release I've purchased hi res download to tie me over until I find the 2LP set. It's very crankable after playing the bootleg for years it's a very pleasing listen indeed. Wish BOG's where together longer.

Is it just me or is Jimi putting more effort into his vocals in this show than the three following BOG shows?

I'm not a Bass head by any means, but Billy Cox is way too low in this mix.

This record is bad ass. Played all four sides yesterday. The performances are energetic and phenomenal and the sonics are jaw dropping.

    There you have it.

Great release . The mix off the multitrax is incredible . Best gypsys show .Eddie Kramer is hitting the note. If you like Hendrix at all a must buy . Machine gun is the best version .

Just ordered the CD from Amazon for $10. Is this the complete first show? No tracks missing?

I got mine the other day and I only listened the the title track and Hear My Train A Comin' and the sound is amazing. I have many copies from various sources, but this tops them all without a doubt. This truly is a must have for Hendrix fans.

Ya know what? I thought the exact same thing. I only listened to side a yesterday (and posted earlier that it sounded nice) but this struck me as well. This era of Hendrix has it's own particular sonic characteristics - Billy's fat bass should be one of them.

It could never be as epic as the one on Band Of Gypsys.

FYI- CD mastering is credited to Gundman.

Very good DR across the entire disc.

There a lot to talk about here, that's for sure.

Noticed the tape got much better as the show went on.
Think it got really good after the first song on side 2.

Sides 3 & 4, they really start getting it together, and the sound is flat out great.
Really a different funky vibe on some of these, and the crowd gets more into it as the band heats up.
Train is played at a faster pace. (In fact, one question I would have about this release, seemed to run fast, especially early on)
And the whole second album is just a really unique experience coming from Jimi.

First album is even redeemed by the fact that Jimi is super upbeat, he's trying different sounds, and yeah, he seemed really be into his vocals at this show, very strong.

    Two criticisms of the show.
One I'd have put Changes later in the setlist, maybe before Earth Blues.
And holy **** Buddy, on EZY Rider, at the end, HIT SOMETHING ELSE...geez the guy was pounding away on the snare and finally found a cymbal in the last 10 seconds of the outro jam.
(Needless to say Jimi was awesome on it, Hahaha)
And Billy Cox is too low in the mix, and not real defined in some parts of this.

Very cool to hear the Izabella/Machine Gun meld, interesting idea Jimi was looking at there.
Funny w/ Machine Gun, the solos are all azz backwards with the wailing one at the end of the three loose parts, as opposed to the epic 3rd performance.

Records/cover came perfectly shipped from Amazon.
    Number on it was #179

Funny thing, I'm going out to meet the mail lady after I hear her jeep stop.
So I'm standing there in the drizzle, hearing her rummaging around in the back, then suddenly cartwheeling from the back through the air comes my Jimi album, landing on a mail tote, then sliding off it.
Chuckled thinking, this thing made in from Louisville to here, and now it'll get azzed up 6 feet from my grasp.....

Same thing happened in Finland. I guess they are actually trying to get people to pay for music.

Anyway, the new album is stunning and a valuable addition to the catalogue.

I was not fussed I had already canceled my Spotify subscription anyway, at least I managed a few good listens before they pulled it off. I since bought the 24bit it sounds like a different beast, great stuff.

Which type of guitar was Hendrix playing in this set? It doesn't sound like a Strat.

Just went to the Acoustic Sounds site and ordered this and People, Hell, and Angels. Looking forward adding these two releases to the collection.

Most likely, yes. There are lots of photos of the shows, and i haven't seen one where Jimi can be seen with any other guitar.
