I made every one of those (and more). I was totally hooked. I gave them to a young cousin in the late 70s but I kept one - Frankie! He's in a shoebox in the garage.
That film got panned by the critics so I skipped it. I'll have to look out for it on TV or cheapo DVD.
Anybody mention Boris Karloff at age 75 appearing as the Monster in a rare light hearted episode of "Route 66". Peter Lorre and Lon Chaney Jr were also on the show to see if they could still scare a convention of female secretaries. Frankensteinia: The Frankenstein Blog: Frankenstein on Route 66 »
My source for browsing new DVDs to watch is Amazon. I see a dozen or so very good movies a year that get panned by critics but like this one will have a few hundred customer reviews with many 4 & 5 star reviews. Watch Victor Frankenstein () online - Amazon Video »
I think that I built one when I was in first grade. I had Frankenstein, The Mummy, and Dracula. I remember that I could remove Frankenstein's arms and vest (they were connected IIRC) and I would put my $1 allowance in there.
I made most of those to but I had the square box versions that were made 69-71. My hippy babysitter asked if she could paint the mummy and I reluctantly agreed. She did a beautiful job making the entire model psychedelic from top to bottom. Unfortunately I lost it during a move shortly afterwards. I think a mover took it. To this day I still look on ebay hoping it might show up.
That episode also has Martita Hunt in the cast who played Baroness Meinster in the Hammer film Brides Of Dracula.
That's the only entry in Hammer's Frankenstein series that I'm missing! (I explained why in this old post: Hammer Films Horror - What's The Best DVDs » )
Watched the Ghost of Frankenstein this week. Elsa Frankenstein finds her grandfather's notebook, which contains this passage: "I am sure I can harness the lightning and extract its life giving power. I need but one more part to prepare the monster for my final experiment. Tonight we shall steal another body-!" So Dr. Frankenstein was calling it a monster before it was even finished?
Haven't read all pages, so I'm sure it's up here already..... Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, "Frankenhooker"! She looks a little like Kysten Ritter, to me...
I've got that one on DVD... another classic from the great Frank Henenlotter! James Rolfe did a short review of it recently as part of his annual "Monster Madness" series: Frankenhooker (1990) Monster Madness X movie review #7 »
