I'm a HUGE fan of Ronnie James Dio. Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath, DIO, Heaven and Hell, I've always been in awe of his career.

I thought it would be fun to write-up a tribute to Ronnie. It's essentially the story of his rise to fame. Lots of vintage pics and a few videos recreate how a young singer became a metal icon. It should be a good read for both casual fans and die-hards.

The magic of Ronnie James Dio will live forever!

Don't understand the hype about this guy. I did see a video of his filmed on the roof of some UK building. I thought it was embarrassing.

Don't worry about the music videos, they're ridiculous. Focus on his music and his voice. I would highly suggest listening to his albums Holy Diver (Dio) and Heaven & Hell (Black Sabbath)

His voice was one of the best in hard rock/heavy metal.

His 70's work is great, but I think his vocal and musical style really fell into place when he joined Black Sabbath

One of the greatest voices in the history of rock, no doubt. I've never owned any of his solo albums, maybe one of these days. The radio tunes never made me want to buy one.

I think this song is by far the best showcase for his vocals. It gives me goosebumps just THINKING about it!

Nothing like a heavy metal guitar solo to keep away the stalkers

Hmmm... I'd say he had things pretty well figured out for those Rainbow albums!

Just got into DIO a couple of months ago, can't stop listening to Holy Diver. Love it!

Black Sabbath was my first introduction to Dio. In 6th grade, my Uncle gave me a bunch of his records. I remember playing Heaven and Hell over and over. A few years later I traded away an Exodus tape for a copy of Mob Rules. These albums are ingrained in my DNA.

Only saw him once on the magica tour. Awesome album love everything he's done. Especially rainbow and sabbath. First 2 solo albums are classics !

Rainbow was great, but the music didn't sound as much like his classic sound as the 80's albums did (I think it was more of Ritchie's vision for the most part), and the vocals didn't really get that big, operatic sound fully developed until Heaven & Hell, IMO.

Magica has become one of my favorite Dio albums. I rank it up there with Holy Diver and Last In Line.

The Elf album is one of my favorites featuring Dio. Great vocals by Ronnie and great boogie woogie piano.

One of the greatest privileges I've had in my life was seeing Dio twice live. Once with his solo band opening for Iron Maiden (along with Motörhead), and again on Heaven and Hells first tour. Nothing short of a gift....a true professional with Charisma to spare. Don't even get me started on his voice....
