I found this recently online. Their Finale album was a great way to finish the musical journey of these wonderful musicians. But here they are at the height of their artistry, in May 1968. This would be around the Sweet Child era. Bert Jansch lives up to his reputation personally and musically! Please ...take the time to check this out.....

  2. wow thank you. I only vaguely heard of Bert Jansch through a CD that had Kendra Smith on it. This live show is fantastic!

There's also a solo Bert Jansch show from 1973...

Wholly ****. This is a true treasure. Simply the greatest British export of the late 60's

Btw, i highly recommend The 24/48 download or CD of Finale, live recordings from the 2008 mini tour.
    Shockingly intense.

I totally agree! Their performances on the Finale album burn with a more focused ( and sober) intensity than the ones they did as young acoustic revolutionaries in the '60's. Amazing what 40, or so, years of creative evolution can do.... But this '68 TV show is a treasure, you bet!

Focused is the word! I was also taken aback at how strong their voices still are...not like at their absolute peak...but still
    Powerful, especially Jacqui.

Terry's playing was probably the biggest surprise for me. Apparently, he retired from "the music business ", to concentrate on running his restaurant in Majorca, and raising his family, putting the drums to the side. He also fought a personal battle with a bi-polar condition, all of which Terry expounds on at his website, terrycoxdrums.com .The surprising thing was his approach, which was less like a jazzman on a drum kit, and more like a world music percussionist. The sensitivity, creativity, and musicality he had always displayed before, made up for any rustiness, IMHO...

Danny Thompson was and is Britain's greatest upright bass monster. Brilliant solo by him. One of Britain's finest musicians who rarely gets the attention he richly deserves. Kate Bush, Cat Stevens , Richard Thompson were not only fans but had Danny play with them as well.

This not even up for debate. The number of records he has played on is absurd. His work with Nick Drake is historic as well.

I have to agree with all the superlatives regarding both the 1968 and 2008 performances. To me Jansch/Thompson/Cox are one of the greatest guitar/bass/drums rhythm engines ever (I'm also a big fan of Townshend/Entwistle/Moon and Nocentelli/Porter Jr./Modeliste). The surprise to me with this video is how prominent Jansch is; his architectural guitar work is often somewhat submerged under Renbourn's more decorative playing; in this recording his playing is quite forward in the mix, and really is the foundation for much of the music.

For some odd reason, I thought of the ferocity of The Who(especially Thompson's playing) when I watched this. Though Jansch/Thompson/Cox were doing work almost exclusively in the British Folk/Rock genre. Kudos to them for straying outside comfortable boundaries and woodshedding with such passion and aplomb.

  19. Correction, it was Hope Sandoval singing on the album / Edge of a Dream
I will be happy to explore his music. I remember the album I had was really quality music, it just got filed in the back of my mind and sadly forgotten until now. Times like these are what makes this place worth being at. Cheers

Thanks. That was fantastic. What a pleasure, in particular, to see Danny Thompson play that solo version of Mingus' "Haitian Fight Song!"

Yes I have all the Pentangle LP's and on CD, first saw them in 67 at the "Windsor Jazz And Blues Festival", when Bert and John were playing electric guitars, that didn't last for very long!

What a tremendous piece of film, thanks for posting.

I saw John's last gig with Wizz jones still on top of his game.
