I was in my metal phase by 1987 and I wasn't paying a lot of attention to Top 40 radio as much as I had a few years earlier but I like the seven songs I just listed. I'm checking out the Icehouse song. I don't recall hearing it before. I would have picked it as well had I heard it before making my selections for this poll. "Valerie" is an interesting case because the 1982 version had been a top 20 hit single in my area at the time of its release.

I for one love "I Want Your Sex", but my preferred CD version of it is on the Beverly Hills Cop 2 soundtrack, where it is the 45 version (no overlap with "Father Figure" on the intro, and no segue to "Part 2"). Plus, BHC2 has Bob Seger's "Shakedown".

Yeah, "Valerie" had peaked at No. 70 on the Hot 100 late in 1982. I prefer the 1987 remix (found on Chronicles), which peaked at No. 9.

I do prefer the S&G version, but I think the Bangles did a brilliant job. I'd rank it as one of the very best remakes of the 80s.

I thought their version sounded great when used on Stranger Things

It was good to have Eric Carmen back on the charts, but Hungry Eyes is a pretty mediocre song.

George Harrison and The Bangles, two actual choices this time -- amazing.

Can't believe "Could've Been" by Tiffany is second to last, only above Michael Bolton.

Got My Mind Set On You- George Harrison. I barely can stand much else on the list, as for Steve Winwood "Valerie" I liked the original better.

"Dude" has always made cringe. I wish I could get back the numerous times I've had to listen to it.

I was really greedy here and chose 19 of these. Say what you will about this chart, but it truly is the music I remember the most and associate the majority of these tunes with good memories. I think if I had to choose my ten absolute favourites they would be:
    Bangles
    Taylor Dayne
    Jody Watley
    Steve Winwood
    Heart
    Belinda Carlisle
    John Cougar
    Bill Medley/ Jennifer Warnes
    Eric Carmen
    George Michael

The six I didn't choose were: Pretty Poison, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Expose and Michael Bolton.

What's significant about that particular week vis-a-vis why it's being posted today?

Never seen it, and had to look it up. :) But I'm 100% certain Stranger Things has to be ~1000000x better than Less Than Zero (which "Hazy Shade Of Winter" was the theme song for, as I'm sure you know).

@Bobby Morrow has been doing posts with polls on the final charts of the year for a handful of the years of the '80s. They've been quite fun to participate in!

Wasn't 1987 when Elton had his first round of voice problems? I believe he had surgery for nodules on his vocal chords. After this recording, of course.

I don't know the Jody Watley song. I'm assuming it's not a Human League cover.:)

It's just because most of the biggest artists release their albums in the 4th quarter. So in theory, the singles charts should be better too.:)

That Jody Watley album was a big hit here! 5 singles in total. "Looking For A New Love" hit #2 Pop and #1 R&B, while "Don't You Want Me" charted at #6 Pop and #3 R&B. "Some Kind Of Lover" reached #10 Pop and #3 R&B. Two more big R&B hits as well - "Still A Thrill" (#3) and "Most Of All" (#11).

Yes, it was. I'm not sure why he decided to do a live album, knowing his voice was not at its peak, and that he had serious problems.

No, it's not. It's a standard 1987 midtempo R&B track (so I like it), but you... well, Bernard Edwards produced it, and Jody Watley was in Shalamar, so there's that. :)
