Certainly Supper's Ready qualifies as epic, whatever definition of epic you choose

I gotta add As Strong as Samson to that list, which I consider the best song of the '70s bar none:

How about some love for Caravan? "Nine Feet Underground"

Also, although it's not exactly prog, Traffic's "The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys" deserves a mention.

That's funny, I was gonna throw Low Spark on my list, but couldn't decide if it was 'prog' enough.

A little short in length but Xanadu by Rush is pretty epic

Complete with tubular bells, swirling modulating guitar arppeggios, multi time signature, counterpoint basslines, two doubleneck stringed instruments and eastern travel in time and space

Oh and it's decreed by Kubla Khan

I like the music, but I just can't get past the lyrics on Xanadu. When he sings about honeydew I just laugh. No offense intended here...

I am going to be checking out ALL of these songs I've never heard. I'll grab a link to a new band that I just got into in one second I need to hop on my computer to grab it the song is amazing and it's actually a live version of it. Be right back!

stick this out until about 2:20 seconds in...the first vocals are going to run some folks off...but he can sing very high and clean too ala Jon Anderson...but I am telling you

these guys are actually very good. He goes "cookie monster" first and even I was like....oooh man...why this...but he does some really nice clean singing too...

the musicianship is really fantastic too...this is a live track done in a studio:

Lots of great tracks here. I would put Anesthetize from Porcupine Tree in this mix.
Here is a nice live version

Great call. I have several Harmonium and related albums.
English and especially French Canada have a wealth of top
notch Prog. Bregent, Et Cetera, Morse Code, Octobre, and
    Pangee are particular favorites.

"Can't Be Long Now / Francoise / For Richard / Warlock"
"The Love in Your Eye / To Catch Me a Brother / Subsultus / Débouchement / Tilbury Kecks"
"L'auberge du sanglier / A Hunting We Shall Go / Pengola / Backwards / A Hunting Shall We Go (Reprise)"
    - Caravan

I consider Prog different from the more inclusive Progressive label and some bands and tracks posted fit the latter more than the former, so I'll present some that fit the term Progressive:

    "Yoo Doo Right"
    "Mother Sky"
    "Halleluwah"
    "Bel Air"
    - Can

I am going to be so prog today. :)

Going to start at the top of this thread and hopefully be able to check out all the songs I have never heard. There's quite a few!

I'd still highly suggest any of The Mars Volta catalog if you haven't ever given them a chance. For about 2 years it was just about all I'd listen to.

King Crimson - "Larks' Tongues In Aspic, Part 1", "Fracture", "Starless"
Frank Zappa - "King Kong", "Dupree's Paradise"
Yes - "Close to the Edge", "Revealing Science of God"
    Genesis - "Supper's Ready"
Gentle Giant - "Features from Octopus"
Jethro Tull - "Thick as a Brick"

And if we're including some Krautrock classics, I'd throw in Can's "Halleluwah" and ADII's "Soap Shop Rock"

Agreed. In fact, I'll nominate the "Birdman" suite as an awesome prog epic.
