    4. Lick It Up (Very Best Of)

Sadly I guess it proves Paul's point about deep cuts...people scratch the surface but don't discover the hidden gems.
    And Beth twice? Geez...

It must irk them that Beth is their biggest song.

I'm not into iTunes, but this is an interesting list.

Paul might be a little pissed that Peter Criss has the top song on this format. (Beth is twice on the top ten!)

I'm extremely surprised "Heaven's On Fire" is so high on the list, beating out a slew of obvious classics I thought much more popular.

That being said, I'm also surprised "Forever" didn't break into the list.

Yet, casual folks don't even know "Rocket Ride" or "Tomorrow" exist. A tragedy ...

I remember seeing an interview with Ace confirming that Beth was the reason why Destroyer was successful and elevated the band to height of popularity in 76.

They are probably very proud of Beth, and rightfully so.

The lack of deep cuts on the list is almost certainly more of a reflection on the kind of person who uses i-tunes, i.e. transient & ephemeral types. Hence, no 'Burn Bitch Burn', sadly.

I was around in late 1984 when "Heaven's on Fire" came out, and it was a big rock radio hit for KISS, bigger than Lick it Up, and it gave them their first out of the box platinum-plus album since their 1970s heyday.

It made a big impact, it fit right in with the newly-emerging pop-metal Hair style being popularized by acts like Motley Crue, Ratt, Twisted Sister, and Quiet Riot at that time.

I would say it remains the biggest hard-rock song KISS made since the 1970s, so it isn't surprising to me that it is a popular song for them today.

Interesting, thank you! I was only 7 at the time, so I wasn't too cognizant of the song's impact at the time. That being said, from my vantage point, the song itself doesn't suit me as well as other KISS tracks.

here's the Top 10 Tracks from Spotify in the United States:

    1. "I Was Made For Loving You"
    2. "Rock And Roll All Nite"
    3. "Detroit Rock City" (from Smashes, Trashes & Hits)
    4. "Heaven's On Fire"
    5. "Beth"
    6. "Love Gun"
    7. "Lick It Up"
    8. "Strutter"
    9. "Shock Me"
    10. "Calling Dr. Love"
all are the standard album tracks unless noted otherwise. Note that these are the so called "Top Tracks" which are somehow not ranked by plays.

    What?!? No "Oath"?

"Dr. Love" must have gained popularity from the Dr. Pepper commercial. It's a favorite of mine, so I'm down with it.

Seems like the young people need to get exposed to tracks like "Deuce", "Black Diamond", "Christine Sixteen", "Two Timer", "Goin' Blind", and "Baby Driver".

Most of these songs on this list are also set list standards for live shows.
I guess this the reason why the live set lists rarely changes.

I have a resurgence in my love for this song. I got burnt out on it for awhile but damn it's good.
I'm just sorry a decent live version with Eric Carr was never released. The one they put out there (as a b-side and on the STARS charity disc) is at the wrong speed.

Which also probably irked them. I seem to recall reading the majority of the band didn't like the song. It was the first song I ever heard by them.

Definitely a good list but, as most have mentioned, it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. On the other hand, seeing it is a reflection of popular songs, the list makes perfect sense.

Yes, the band owes much of their lasting success to "Beth". It brought them a wider fan base and truly propelled them to the commercial peak they would hit a year later. And greatly bolstered the sales of "Destroyer".

It is true though that they were surprised by it. In fact, Paul has stated they thought it was a "melodic throwaway". They tucked it away on the flip side of "Detroit Rock City", only to discover people were much more interested in the B side! Eventually the band did the wise thing and re-released the single with "Beth" as the A side. And the rest is Kisstory... :)

I like "Heaven's On Fire" and it's understandable why it's a hit but my favorite song off "Animalize" has always been "Thrills In The Night". I seem to gravitate to that one the most.

From what I understand the "popularity" on Spotify is a mixture of number of plays and how recent the plays are. So a song can have millions of plays but will eventually move down the list if people stop listening to it.
