EXACTLY! The material on this DVD has the potential to look better than any TV special Frank has ever done.

I must have a special edition player...mine is a Blue-Raymond....but I agree this material should be given the best fidelity available....Blue Ray.

Yes. One can see IIRC after finishing the song making a face to the band "I hate that song"! LOL...

My Deep Discount order arrived Saturday morning. Tracking dropped out between DHL and USPS, so I was left in suspense between Tuesday (left DHL in KY) and late Friday (arrived at my local post office in MA). Amazon Prime would have had it here a day sooner for much more $$$, but I can't complain.
This was packaged in one of those tightly-sealed adhesive corrugated cardboard packs. The set is very compact, and there was no damage at all.

Good to know, thanks. Mine should be here today or tomorrow as I placed my order the day after you placed yours.

Easy to miss, but the outer shrink wrap is stamped, "DISC MADE IN MEXICO."

(I guess Donald Trump won't be buying this one.)

It remains to be seen if the identical contents will be distributed in the EU. My USA copy contains an FBI anti-piracy warning on the outer box (and on the DVD), and it carries a North American-style UMe catalog number (B0025463-00).

Just got my box now. Well, talk about downsizing. These boxes are now the size of a DVD case! Once I took the book out, I decided I am never putting it back in. The 'box' can be split apart very easily.

Thoughts on the audio for the Egypt concert? It certainly sounds like a mono soundboard recording. I'm surprised that this wasn't professionally recorded.

It was recorded by ABC to be a part of a story on "20/20". It is not anything more than 1979 TV mono. But, it IS a helluva good dry sound. There are chops and missed spots due to tape issues. Ages ago, a friend of mine "remastered" the concert inserting similar sounding bites from bootleg recordings to "complete" the performance. IMHO it is an absolute knock-out and this official release will pale in comparison.

As I said before, the days of luxurious Sinatra box sets have passed. We must be happy with what the money people will permit the production people to spend on new projects. Sad...but true.

The Monte Carlo gig sounds like it was recorded in a cave. Restoration by Leon Smith, Mastering by Larry Walsh; whatever that means these days.

I'm still spending my hard earned $60 and getting a lot less packaging than before.

Im just hoping MFSL is allowed to complete the Capitol albums in the same audio/packaging quality and I'll be quiet. I promise.

    From the linked page:
    • I assume by "alternate take," they mean "the usual take that was first issued on the 45?" Nothing new?
