Amazing to think he was the hottest star in country for a minute before a guy named Garth Brooks stole a bit of his thunder

Well I've heard of country music but it's all a bit frightening really, all those hats and stuff.

Sometimes it's hard to distinguish bravery from foolhardiness.

I loved Clint Black. I preferred him to Garth Brooks, though the latter's first four albums were very good.

I like old country. I'd spose my latest country albums would be....

    Alison Krauss 'Paper Airplane' 2011

Emmylou Harris 'Wrecking Ball' 1995 < country ? I spose

Dwight Yoakam 'Guitars, Cadillacs etc..' 1986

Just yesterday I got a nice Patsy Cline compilation 'The Legendary Patsy Cline'. I have most of the tunes already..but this CD seems to be rare, or at least gets a fair price on eBay, cheap on discogs though :( . I like George Jones, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, and some country-rock of the late 60s early 70s, bluegrass...Ernest Tubb...some other's too.

Nothing wrong with the old guard stuff (Haggard, Nelson, Waylon, etc) but the new stuff? Ugh, no thanks.

Not listening currently, but I do have albums by:

    Willie Nelson
    Hank Williams
    Holly Williams
    Merle Haggard
    Waylon Jennings
    George Jones
    Patsy Cline
    Loretta Lynn
    Dwight Yoakam
    Jim Lauderdale
    Johnny Cash
    Shania Twain
    Charlie Daniels

Plus a bunch that I would consider on "the fringe" of country such as:

    The Jayhawks
    John Prine
    The Flying Burrito Brothers
    Gram Parsons
    The Byrds

Dwight Yoakam is one of my favorite artists, with many great albums spanning decades now. Gone is my pick for greatest country album I've heard.

The Turnpike Troubadours, an excellent red dirt country band, made their Grand Ole' Opry debut last Saturday.
