Team Rick had already met parts of Team Negan, like the motorcycle gang they blew away with that bazooka and Daryl had heard about them in that burned forest. So they knew they were fighting the next group of homicidal idiots, but: the Hilltop people could have said something that there are much more people involved than those in the factory. Maybe they didn't know. And that Jesus guy, when he said: your world is going to get much bigger now, he should have mentioned those Negan people instead of grinning like all was super great. The problem of course was that Team Rick overestimated its powers and how they got trapped by the bad guys was so easy and stupid. All this stepping out from behind a tree in a forest is unbelievable. First of all, how do these people know behind which trees to hide? And how in the world could this burned-face guy step behind Daryl out of the blue. You can't sneak up behind someone like Daryl in the woods without a sound. Also, how can this guy who shot Carol turn around for a second and when he turns back, there stands a horse and Morgan?

True, they had a sense there were some s**theads roaming around, like the motorcycle gang. But they still didn't have all the pieces of the puzzle to deduce that the people at The Factory needed to die. That was a pretty big leap in judgement.

Glenn's head bashed in and his eye all popped out was bad
How long Negan talked while he gurgled and eyed Maggie before finishing him off was worse. I was like "man finish the poor guy off".
    That's how I saw it..Dang

that was the intent of the writers to fool the audience in Ricks mind and then give them a rush when they saw reality...

Given the level of brutal violence on this show you actually believe that some viewers would tune out and away because of the f-word?? Advertisers only care about 1 thing - eyeballs watching the screen and their ads, if it means a show drops a few naughty words (as defined by who??) so be it. Two people got their brains mashed into a bloody pulp and apparently advertisers are ok with it yet if a female nipple appears anywhere all hell breaks loose. the FCC is a wacky bunch indeed....let's leave it at that.

  7. A quick Internet search will show that the FCC does not regulate language on cable/satellite (if so, HBO would be in a world of trouble). In fact, AMC has on rare occasion allowed the f-word to be used (once in Breaking Bad, IIRC). It is up to the cable channel to decide if they want it allowed in its programming, or not. While I'm not a fan of the FCC, let's not accuse them of something they don't do.

it stopped being "fun" seasons ago. something has compelled me to keep watching, however. i think that's the generally interesting idea that the show presents as a whole. but this season premier demonstrates that any character development or ties to the pilot or first season are long gone. the only ideas now are to...

    $$$$

i agree with your sentiments, but i don't think it's laziness. i think it's totally intentional. the show runners now are absolute hacks and have one goal in mind: stretch the show by appealing to the lowest common denominator to force viewers to sit through countless commercials.

Agreed. I was sad at the end of that episode(which Gimple also wrote and the great Michelle MacLaren directed). Did not see that coming (Sophia as a walker). It was sad enough, but whomever came up with that ending crane shot--like little Sophia's soul heading upward--put me over the edge. I was really upset.

My feeling is that TWD has really painted itself into a corner with this episode. Seriously, where can they go from here? Can there be a more extreme villain than Negan? More graphic scenes? I'm not sure I could even enjoy something like that. I do feel manipulated by Gimple and co., as good as they are. I'm still not over that dumpster BS from last year. That was dealt from the very bottom of the deck.

    Look at the flowers Negan!:D

I wonder if they`ll make gory Glenn T shirts next?

  12. It's an amazing world that we live in where the most used and versatile word in the English language is censored just like this: You ****ing mother****ers with all of your ****ery can get ****ed if you want to be dumb ****s.

  13. I don't think that the dumpster scene was anywhere close to the BS of Daryl and Carol nosediving their van from the overpass just to have the van land on its tires with our heroes virtually unscathed.

My feeling is that this is probably the beginning of the end for the show. You're right that they probably can't convincingly top Negan as an antagonist, so why try? They've already announced the show's been renewed for an eighth season. I'm thinking it can wrap up either then or maybe with a ninth season.

For reference, the group's encounter with Negan that we just saw on the show was issue #100 of the comic book. The newest issue is #159, so we're about 2/3 through the current material. They can make up that ground pretty quickly if they want to, so it could easily end around where I said.

I think Negan might be around for several seasons.

I don't see him getting killed this season for sure.

Agreed, which is why I see him being part of the endgame for the show. He's the "final boss," IMO.

  18. My opinion is that the casting of Jeffrey Morgan as Negan was ill-advised. I just don't get how a 50 year-old guy - who from what I can tell isn't particularly physically big/strong - could be that powerful in a post-apocalyptic world. I mentioned this a few pages back but I hope they flesh out his back story to make this seem plausible.

I don't want to veer in to comic book territory but at least how Negan is drawn there makes him look like a bad-ass. Jeffrey Morgan looks more at home in a comfy sweater than a leather jacket.

wow, the backlash is gaining momentum.

The Walking Dead Quitters Club: The Walking Dead Quitter’s Club: goodbye for real »

Earlier this year we started a weekly column called "The Walking Dead Quitter’s Club." The premise was straightforward: TWD has shown itself to be a program that enjoys manipulating its audiences with a tremendous amount of cynicism, to the point where viewers might wonder why they were watching in the first place.

Some episodes bumped our likelihood of quitting higher, others brought it lower. But throughout it all, there was an unstated rule in our thinking: there could come an episode that would finally push too far, and mistreat its audience to such a degree that The Walking DeadQuitter’s Club would actually quit.

Last night AMC aired that episode.

    Bullet Points:

    Torture-porn masquerading as drama

The episode shows just how hollow the show has become

Contempt for its viewers is The Walking Dead's greatest sin

This is on showrunner Scott Gimple — but it's also on AMC

Respect your emotional energy and just say "no"

Check him out as The Comedian in Watchmen. He's got the chops, if the script is good. It does look like he dropped some weight for TWD, which works against his threatening appearance a bit, I will agree.

Considering the glacial pace the show, he'll certainly be around for at least a couple of seasons as an active character given the way the comic played out.

I don't understand how some people can be so outraged at the violence in this show, look at the world they inhabit, very similar to what early humans probably went thru when they were both hunter and prey...in other words constantly stressed to the max and willing to do whatever it takes to survive. Rick and his crew aren't exactly the angels in white here, they've committed numerous atrocities in the name of survival. Why anyone would want to continue living in that environment is anyone's guess, maybe hope?? that it could get better?

I, personally, am not outraged at the violence. In a way, i watch it for the violence. But I am outraged at the high level of suckiness, and far worse and way more maddening...my utter inability to walk away and stop watching.

I think someone like....THE ROCK...would've been more believable as Negan. Just get a big ol' wrassler for Negan....that would work for me....and fit the writing of the show.

I agree....if Jeffrey Dean Morgan acted like that in front of most people....I think he'd get an ass whoopin....

The only way I can see him being so powerful is -- he has the secret combination to a huge safe full of food and water.

And here I'm thinking JDM is quite possibly the BEST thing that's happened to this show in years! I've read the books and while I agree that Negan oughtta be bigger (not 'Rock' big though), JDM absolutely nails Negan's character!
