I never understood why more alt indie bands didn't cover She's Got Everything and Little Miss Queen Of Darkness.

 

God, there are SOOO many. I put them second to the Beatles, except everybody knows every Beatles song and the Kinks are criminally overlooked.

One night about two years ago, it ended a commute of a longish day, and after the song faded out, I still kept singing the chorus for another 5 minutes.

 

what a great thread. It reminds me my introduction to the Kinks (aside from whatever I heard on the radio) was, of all things' "The Great Lost Kinks album", which I bought on impulse and thoroughly enjoyed.

Ray should have gotten some kind of award for consistent and high caliber songwriting from 64-72.

He should have gotten the Nobel Prize and the Pulitzer just for "Fancy"

Ok, so I totaled up everyone's suggestions and here's what we've got. Somewhat surprisingly (to me at least) Berkeley Mew's takes the #1 position with 9 votes. Honorable mentions go to Big Sky, Misty Waters, etc., as you can see on the list. I can't say I necessarily agree with all these rankings, but it certainly doesn't matter. As someone else said, it's almost easier to name the Kinks songs you don't like! Plus, I still haven't had a chance to listen to every song on this list, so it's nice to have some good material to look forward to! Thanks again to everyone for all the wonderful suggestions.
