Well done Domino Records - more concerned with a quick buck., beard trims and the marketing of the new 'vinyl revival.'

    Disgraceful. £18 down the drain.

But other than that, everything was OK?

Your experience seems to be the exception where Domino is concerned. Bear in mind the scratchy lp noises on one track (the first track of side 3 IIRC) are part of the recording. If that's not your issue, I'm sorry you got a bad one. Is there some reason you can't exchange it?

Mine was fine, music and pressing quality wise.

Domino has always had decent pressings. To accuse this - of all - label(s) to cash in on a "vinyl revival" is frankly ridiculous. They ALWAYS had vinyl versions of their catalogue and I keep buying them since easily 1997.

So is mine, on both counts.

What was the issue with yours, OP?

I'm considering buying a record manufactured by Domino (i.e., the expanded version of John Cale's Fragments of a Rainy Season). Anyone else care to weigh in on the quality of Domino reissues?

We have one severely negative review, though no indication what the specific problem was/is.

How would those who like Domino consider their releases using a superb-excellent-very good-good scale (especially when compared to the CD version)?

I had completely forgotten about this post/thread. My initial copy, hence the irritation - was scratched, very noisy and terribly warped. It was returned to the shop and a replacement copy was received which played fine.

Thanks. Did you think the quality (such as it was) made a vinyl purchase worthwhile (as opposed to just a CD version) or about the same?

Well personally speaking, I prefer buying LP's if they are well made and sound good. I haven't heard the CD of the JC title mentioned but the LP sounds good. It's all down to personal taste and preference.

The M:FANS lp comes with a digital download that is presumably the same mastering as the cd (it was even a wav file if I recall), so you can get both with one purchase and decide for yourself.

The 3LP Fragments release will not be available on Fri 9th as advertised. The lorry carrying the stock from the pressing plant crashed.

Never had a problem with Domino vinyl pressings and i have a lot, MFANS was pressed at Optimal

Yes Domino offer wav format as a download option with their releases. If you buy the 2LP Fragments you get the extra tracks on the 3LP version included with the download.

Hmmm... I received a notice last week that mine had already shipped from the UK. Curious.

I haven't played it yet but the packaging is lovely. I went for the 3LP set. Lovely inner sleeves with notes and lyrics etc, download card included. £25.....that's how to price a triple vinyl set.

Ordered from Domino? Independent shops don't look like they will be receiving any stock

I got a nice flat, cleaning sounding set and it sounds really good. I'm on the third LP of extras/outtakes and it's great. Very impressed by a 3LP package for £25.....and then there's the fantastic content. Always loved this record.
