I find their album covers very American (no bad thing), starting with Sticky Fingers.

This is pretty lazy, it's basically an advert, but we were never gonna get jacket gold were we.

On the Pink Floyd thread there's about 50 posts lamenting that the new Animals cover is "too bright."
    Not exaggerating.
    (FWIW it IS too bright.)

When I first saw it during the pre-order time, I thought it was only a place-holder icon. I figured it would be replaced with the real cover when it became available.

Out of 87 threads regarding Blue and Lonesome, this is the one that still lives.

I don't know if lazy is the right word. I would think that ideas can be good or bad. It looks a little cheap to me, like a synthetic product and not the basic blues. I hate the word product, it's the worst thing I can say about anything. Everything I like, from chocolate bars to paper clips is high art.

After taking all your suggestions under advisement, I have now produced the definitive Blue And Lonesome cover. Enjoy.

Basically sums up the entire thread in one answer ^^^^^^^

Horrific cover that looks like some 12 year old made it using Clip Art and MS Paint on his laptop. The Stones' long-promised and long-awaited blues album, the one paying tribute to their original influences, and that's the best they could be arsed to come up with. Sheesh.

Turns out I had an extra 30 seconds to spare. So.... For you more "arty" types, Definitive Blue & Lonesome Cover: Part 2.

Not a great cover but certainly showing slightly more imagination than Neil Young's "Peace Trail".

I'll tell you what, that's some nice work right there, but personally, I'm way more sick of the "old fashioned mic" cliche than i am of the Stones' tongue logo.

I dunno, there have been some absolutely HORRIFIC covers coming out of the Warner Music Group in the last few years. And I don't mean 'pushing the envelope' horrific. Kid Rock 'First Kiss' (I don't expect Kid to be a leader in anything when it comes to art, but this is even terrible for him), Duran Duran 'Paper Gods', Ed Sheeran....
It's almost as if there's no money left in the label budgets, so they get their kids to design the covers.

Not lazy and not horrific. The OP has obviously only seen the cover online. The physical one is much better.

What was it that Lennon said? Anything "new" the Stones did, the Beatles had done 6-12 months before? Bowie died in January and it's December now...surprised they didn't actually do this...hmm...:shh::shh::shh:

If anyone doesn't care for the sleeve, do what I did.

    Paint It Black.

I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black

It is a pretty lazy, unappealing cover, it's hard to deny--the tongue logo wore out its welcome years ago. Of course, if I decide that I really like the music, that won't matter. The Monkees' Good Times! cover wasn't anything to write home about, but it was an excellent reunion effort for me.

I listened to a few songs on Spotify. It's an album I thought they should have made when I heard the b-side to Mixed Emotions. I like what I heard but I won't run out and buy it. I would be more likely to take a chance on the vinyl if it had a better cover.

Well no matter how we feel about the cover there is no doubt they got the desired effect because in the stores the CD is impossible to miss. It's basically a neon sign right in front of you telling you to come over and pick it up. Same online when you see it among other new titles. Marketing 101. Mick is no idiot.

It's more than that -- "Blue and Lonesome" is also the song that set them on the path of making this album at all, after they spontaneously recorded it in between working on new material.
