Quite a witty quote from Prince.:D

Wasn't he supposed to duet on the title track at one point?

I used to like Bad album a lot when I first became a MJ fan around 7 years ago. But after a few rounds of listening from time to time, I started losing interest of the album. MJ's vocal often sounds a bit too forceful compared to his early works. The lyrics of songs like Bad, Dirty Dianna are not very interesting to me. Having said that, I still love Thriller, and that is enough.

Don't know but a MJ/Prince collaboration would have been cool. I remember reading about them being in the same room for something and Prince somehow freaked out MJ. Perhaps that put a kybosh on the duet!

IMO it seems he's most sincere on songs he didn't write.
She's Out of my Life, Human Nature and Man in the Mirror.
Which makes him a bit of an underrated interpreter of the lyric.

Got a bit more time to elaborate now...

My choices are being Off The Wall and Thriller-centric, because I think with Bad a certain predictability and tiredness set in and the music gradually lost it's funkiness. A result, I bet, because of the personal overexposure.

I think he spent so long tinkering with 'Bad' in the studio than some of the spontaneity and 'life' of his previous two albums was missing. I'm sure he wanted 'Thriller' to be a big hit, but he was determined 'Bad' would outsell it. That's a lot of pressure.

The "Dangerous" singles not doing that well in this poll. Thought "Black Or White" might have done better.

Many on this board were done with Pop music by the early 90's.

Yep. Even with Michael. I am not sure how to describe it, but I think what turned me off was that Thriller was the last "organic" sounding Michael record to me. Starting with Bad, it just didn't connect with me anymore...and got progressively worse IMO.

I loved Bad, but he started to lose me on Dangerous. Although at least half of the latter is excellent.

CouldnĀ“t agree more. Many of the tracks on "DANGEROUS" sound so alike and samey that they lose me. I like the poppier tracks - "WILL YOU BE THERE", "BLACK OR WHITE" and "REMEMBER THE TIME". Agree that about half of the album is excellent.

It was the first of his albums to be far too long as well.

Oh yes - in more ways than one. There were too many songs, and most of the songs were too long and outstayed their welcome.

"Remember the Time" deserves more love. Talk about an absolutely perfect pop single.

That one shouldn't even count. The guest vocal on Rockwell's hit and his duet with Jermaine were far better that year!

Besides Beat It and Human Nature, I want to add Thriller, Black or White, and Rock With You. The MTV of Rock With You is cool, and Black or White is a bit crazy.

It's great that 8 people were kind enough to vote for Motown's 1984 cash in, Farewell My Summer Love.:)
