Haven't really thought about this since 1977, when obviously anything the BBC used / told was the truth. :D

Think at the time a number of us were a bit shocked, as was the little lady inrecord shop I used, as the Pistols outsold Rod rather more than 2 to 1. She had predicted a certain number one, from what she had heard.

Maybe that's normal for Norfolk!

They wouldn't allow those naughty punks to spoil the party in Jubilee Year.

I never quite undertood why Miss You was lauded bit DYTIS was frowned upon, both were highly enjoyable. Maybe a sense of humour is not always appreciated.

I turned 14 in 1978. There isn't a single thing on that list I'm nostalgic for.

Saw Eddie and The Hot Rods many times, including thrice with Squeeze as support, they were a superb live act.

Barrie Masters was the guest on Johnnie Walkers's radio show a week or so ago and the show is available for listening on the BBC website.

Would have been worth it to see the BG's as new romantics!

And Kate Bush at No. 3... not quite so boring. (At least, I've never seen "Wuthering Heights" described as boring... nutty, weird, annoying even, but never boring). :)

Unfortunately Kenny never had a number 1 with the Bump.

Even I liked Wuthering Heights back in 1978. It broke through my many barriers.:D

I think there was some 'fudging' with the sales figures for God Save The Queen. Back then, the Royal family were treated well by the media. They'd try their best not to let the record 'spoil' Jubilee year. Nowadays nobody would care and it'd be played on Radio One.:D I think Spitting Image crushed the Royals more than the Sex Pistols song ever did..

Much as I love this single, the video always reminds me of a washing machine starting up.

Boney M went down fast...The top selling group in the U.K. of 1978 to being unable to place a top 40 single by the end of the following year.

I'm sure you were crushed by this.:)

And the winner is: The Rolling Stones!

  24. I don't like a lot of these songs, actually only these:
Wings - With A Little Luck
    Rolling Stones - Miss You
Neil Diamond & Barbara Streisand - You Don't Bring Me Flowers

Maybe also 10cc's "Dreadlock Holiday", but that's about it.
