Just before it, I listened to Santana's debut. It's interesting playing the 1995 Phish live album right after 1969's Santana. The guitar on "Stash" sounds just like what came off the Santana record -- to the point where I had to double check and confirm for myself I wasn't still listening to Santana.

If you're going to borrow a guitar sound, you could do worse.

Like Carlos, Trey likes his sustain.

Perhaps that's the technical term. I do not know.

I just know what I hear, and it sounds similar. Clapton and Hendrix and Jorma and Jerry and so many others who play extended electric solos don't have that sound, in my ears.

Yeah that's the term. They both use technique and I imagine pedals to hold a note for a very long time. It's definitely a Santana signature.

When I first heard Trey play in the early 90's, my first impression was that he reminded me of Carlos Santana.

Erik, I'm jazzed for your discovery; that (Amsterdam) was my FIRST purchase after opening my heart and soul to Phish in November 2015 (no small feat for a Head!). It's arguably the Buffalo/Cornell/Boston, '69 FW West, or E'72-pick-'em of the band's career! I see you've also discovered the Island Tour...it's all Gold Yummies!

Tomorrow mid-day I'm off to Riviera Maya and plan to elude Montezuma's Revenge by drinking only Tequila for 72 hours. Hope we cross paths!/peace,K

That sounds like a ton of fun.

Only seen the band 9 times, seen TAB twice and two shows with FTW. I like them. I like them a lot.

I figured you'd seen them like 50 times anyway. I've see like 32 0r 33, but that's since '89. Although admittedly when I saw them in '89 I didn't know what I was seeing and I wasn't that impressed, save the "Good Times, Bad Times" cover. We really liked that, and then we bolted for a party as soon as it was over.

    Phish's Cornell = 12.7.97
    Phish's Europe 72 run = August 93
    Phish's Fillmore West = Nectars

I could continue...but the problem is Phish's music sounds very little like the Dead (except for Destiny)... and thus actual musical camparisons are not warranted.

So nine shows in two or three years. OK, you're a freak. Just kidding. I'm at that pace. I've seen them 11 times since 2013.

the four show Vegas 2016 run really helped to boost my stats, as did the 3 show 2014 Dicks Run.

Did Chula Vista 2016 as well as a Vegas 2014.
