Speaking of KXM, one wonders how George is able to get the financing for all of these bands/projects he collaborates with. They are typically on small labels, so the advances or cost to cover recording cannot be high. And it is highly unlikely George and his collaborators finance these albums.
Of course, but that doesn't mean he would be inclined to toss money away on projects that will have little-to-no return.
Same could be said for Doug Pinnick of King's X. He does tons of collaborations and likely has way less money than Lynch.
In fact, Dug had to do a "go fund me" type thing not so long ago to get hernia surgery. So....the guy ain't exactly J Paul Getty. KING'S X Fans Cover Cost Of DOUG PINNICK's Successful Hernia Surgery »
Well that's depressing. He's a good dude but reportedly somewhat troubled. What is clear, though, is he works his butt off and, as mentioned, he's not a young man.
Good dude indeed. I met him in 1988 outside the now defunct Lamour club in Brooklyn, NY. Some of my local music buddies are personal friends with him and Jerry Gaskill to this day.
So the guys in King's X don't have health insurance? They make that little? Again, depressing. I wonder if Gaskill is in big time debt due to his heart attack some years back?
I don't know about Jerry but I would assume the same situation as Dug based on this and the reference to "uncovered medical expenses" King's X Raising Medical Funds For Jerry Gaskill With Live Album ::King's X News ::antiMusic.com » I also recall some local shows to raise money for him.
Yeah, I contributed $ to both of their campaigns. Great people. Depressing about their lack of financial success. I saw KX a few months ago and Doug told me that the new KXM was ready to go (I didn't even know they were back working on anything), also that KX is planning on recording another new album. All these guys (whether we're talking about the KX crew or George Lynch) seem to keep really busy with solo/side projects. I was surprised to hear they even had time to do another KX album.
So I gave this a listen and you know what? I like it more than the first album which I liked quite a bit. The title track is probably the weakest thing on here; too nu-metal for me, but the rest is some great riffage and fantastic musicianship all around.
Yeah, the title track does not well represent the rest of the album. Though I will say the second half of the title track is better than the first.
Lauren, the young lady on lead guitar, is someone I expect great things from. She was an "AllStar" last year, one of the best in the program, and went on tour. The pitch on the vocal was a bit unstable, but she got a lot better as she warmed up.
I'd like to point out that, except for the drummer, the whole band is female. Let's put an end to that whole "Chicks don't dig hard rock" thing once and for all.
