I absolutely loved the man. He was a large part of my life for years but this is totally indefensible. What was he thinking!!!???

Yeah, that Beat-less lyric you have for #2 always gave me a kick but the all time worst for me was The Bangles hit Manic Monday wherein it is written, "I wish it was Sunday, That's my Fun-day, My I don't wanna Run-day" - Please someone hand me the barf bag!

There are quite a few McCartney cringe moments in his catalogue although, for me, they're not always the ones that others point to.
Despite this, his greater moments are undiminished and it 'doesn't make him a bad poyson', I believe.

Must admit that I have yet to see the English Tea video (didn't know there was one for it) but have taken it on good advice, above, that I would have to cringe and possibly spill my wine.

There isn't one for it. There's a video of him playing the piano, it isn't official and also isn't "cringy" whatsoever.

Prince knows how to write a fun lyric. It also paints a picture which is easily relatable. That's perfect pop for me. It was never meant to sound serious.

You could make it make it some sort of sense though yes? "I dont want a run day" , surely they just couldnt be bothered fixing that line.

There's nothing to fix. The lyric is written by Prince, he knows how to write a song. The lyric is actually:

My "I don't have to run" day.

It's saying she wants it to be Sunday because that's the day she can relax without having to do anything.

The extra syllable that sets my teeth on edge is Robert Palmer's "your teeth ger-rind" from "Addicted to Love" (or is it "Simply Irresistable"?)

    Two from Rattle and Hum:

"All I've got is a red guitar, three chords and the truth"

    and

    "Yep, silver and gold
This song was written in a hotel room in New York city
'Round about the time a friend or ours, little Steven,
Was putting together a record of artists against apartheid
This is a song written about a man
In a shanty town outside of Johannesburg
A man who's sick of looking down
The barrel of white South Africa
A man who is at the point
Where he is ready to take up arms against his oppressor
A man who has lost faith in the peacemakers of the west
While they argue and while they fail to support a man
Like bishop Tutu and his request for economic sanctions
    Against South Africa
Am I buggin' you, I don't mean to bug ya
    Okay Edge, play the blues"

I actually love that version - that was the Bee Gees' last ever recording as a group, in fact.

Though, strangely, Barry seems to be absent.

God, yes! Hard to believe this is the same man who fronted the faces and then cut those fantastic early solo albums.

    Elton John, "Rocket Man"

    "And all this science
    I don't understand
    It's just my job
    Five days a week
    A rocket man
    Rocket Man"

So NASA sent a guy off to Mars who does understand "all this science"? Don't think it's going to be a very successful mission.

The other one that made me cringe is how Tom Petty sounds like Krang in "The Concert For George."

Pretty much all of the lyrics on The Doors' "Hyacinth House", but especially:

"I see the bathroom is clear, I think that somebody's near"

Van Halen - "Feel Your Love Tonight"

"We're gettin' funny in the back of my car
I'm sorry honey if I took you just a little too far, yes
    Uh too too far
Uh so I, I told the fellas out behind the bar
So let me tell you honey just how fine you are, yes
    I guess you are"

    Essentially:

"Sorry about date-raping you but I told my buddies that you were a great lay so uh, pick you up at 8?"
