Sunny Murray - S/T (1966) Sunny Murray (drums) with Jacques Coursil (trumpet), Byard Lancaster (alto sax), Jack Graham (alto sax), Al Silva (bass). (ESP-Disk CD)
Catching up posts in the middle of an afternoon listening sesh. Can anyone identify the thematic connection? I'm sure by post #2 it will be obvious to the Jazz Hounds that reside here.
I hear ya man, and I'll add this one to the list. Audiophile labels seem inherently conservative in their choices and many audiophiles seem to be as well. People are always amazed when I put on a Sunn O))), Electric Wizard or (when roasting the quail) Cypress Hill LP.
Geez man, beer at Noon? I figured with that new badge you'd have to stay somewhat sober during the day for "policing" purposes.
Killer list man, and tracks mine perfectly. The only thing I'd maybe add or substitute would be to include Don Cherry's "Symphony For Improvisers" and "Where Is Brooklyn" and Ornette's "New York Is Now" and maybe "Love Call". Back when the last set was announced I was think of starting a thread asking what 25 picks you'd wish were included but did not want to appear ungrateful for what we got. Maybe we should ask Ron eh??
If we're adding stuff, then Eddie Gale's Ghetto Music and Black Rhythm Happening, and Larry Young's Of Love and Peace would be welcome additions!
IMHO we have it pretty good as audiophile jazz fans. Given the music I hear at hifi shows, I am really surprised some of this stuff gets reissued. No joke when I ask to play Monk or Coltrane, the vast majority to no one has heard of those artists. The one year I went to Munich it was slightly better. BTW I was about to tag you in a post to ask if you were nervous I will uh... be avoiding the Beat and your PMs if things don't go well
On the TT. More Sonny Simmons! Original pressing on the Touché label. There were only 3 records put out on the label. Very political music.
How could I forget those? Excellent adds, maybe two series of 25? Pretty soon we'll need a business plan, and some crowd-funding.
Nervous? Yes, not sure which team will show up. I'll reciprocate and avoid as well. I just told my wife that I hope it does not go for us the way it's going for the Packers. Next show you go to check out the Pass Labs room. I sent them two Music Matters 33's as a thank you gift: Herbie's "Maiden Voyage" and Larry Young's "Unity". I figured they were accessible ehoung and yet, edgy enough for the long hairs.
Honestly, if Music Matters had a Kickstarter or GoFundMe for the next series, I'd donate to them instantly.
I once asked Ron about titles like Schizophrenia, Contours, Black Fire, Life Time, and so on. He replied that he'd take my ideas under serious advisement. That said, given that they've already announced the end of their Blue Note series, they'd need some convincing.
