I was going to say you're crazy, but looking over the track listing, I kind of have to agree. Not much good other than "E.T.I" and "Don't Fear the Reaper". I don't even like "This Ain't the Summer of Love".

Everyone is forgetting Heaven Forbid, one of the best comeback albums ever.

I can understand your dislike for the "cheesy" Marshall Plan.....but you "hate The Golden Age Of Leather" and claim it is really bad.........I don't think you could possibly be more wrong.

I didn't. I mentioned it earlier in thread. It's a good album. I think it's a top five album to be honest. Very strong material.

That album is just awful except for those 2 tracks. There is a bonus track on the remaster called Sally that's great though.

Ok, I can get that, and as I said I disliked it too initially. But it is such a miniscule part of a long multisection (dare I use the word "progressive" even) track, where some of the other parts are just wonderful, you can't judge the song by that. Bring it into an editor and chop the intro off, done, and you have one of their greatest songs! :D

Well, as I thought about it, it's just the barroom singalong intro I don't like. The rest is not bad.

Or you could look at it this way: everything on Agents of Fortune is fantastic except for "E.T.I," which loses points for being about alien visitation or, put another way, "saucer news."

Sometimes you need to experience their songs live to appreciate them (I guess this is true of many bands btw). For instance, I HATED Godzilla the first time I heard it (studio version on the radio), thought it was assinine and atrociously bad. Then I heard it live and loved it, & can even appreciate the studio version now.

A funny & true story, back in the '80's the brother of a friend of mine was the drummer in a covers band and we used to go see them play in bars etc etc etc all over the place. They covered some BÖC including Godzilla. One night they hadn't played it (yet) and there was this really drunk guy there in front of the stage yelling for it almost all night - "PLAY GODZILLA OR GET OFF THE STAGE!!!!". Never 4got that.

You know, I tend to be pretty easy on BÖC for the most part. I don't hate Agents of Fortune but it's definitely a stylistic departure from what came before it. That said, it's a good listen. I can get through the entire album without skipping a song so I guess that says something.

Do you guys understand what the barroom sing a long at the beginning is about?

The song is a about the end of the biker gang era in the 60's.
The singalong part is the drunken bikers lifting their glasses of beer to their cause and their pact.

" Raise your can of beer on high
    and seal your fate forever
our best years have past us by
    the golden age of leather.

The song then tells the story of an epic biker gang battle to the death.

It's a great ****ing song if you just realize the context of the sing a long at the opening.
and musically it one of the best songs BOC ever wrote.

I don't care what the intro is about. I don't like it. It's that simple.

I always thought The Vigil on Mirrors was one of their best songs and for me the highpoint of the album.

A complete waste of time that song. And woefully long too.

Hm, so I've listened to the entire discography of BÖC for years. I have said they're a top ten band for me. I saw them in 1983. I own every album, but "I don't have an open mind"? Got it. Totally.

That's a terrific song. A stand out on a not so great album.

Not me. If I've said it once, I've said it 100 times (on this forum in various threads), I think it is their best album.

Ok ...I think we all know what it's about.
Sorry but the "biker gang" singalong sounds more like the men's glee club.
The rest of the arangement just sounds herky jerky to me, and none of the individual parts are all that interesting.
And when Bloom says "the ritual feast"...it's another monumentally corny sounding moment.

    That's what I don't like about it.

Whoa, now. Their best album? A bold statement, sir. I'd put it top five though, yeah.
