Just curious what the general consensus is, and if possible, explain why.

You mean a 33 1/3rpm LP track spun at 45rpm?

Or a song on an LP vs. that song on a 45?

We sometimes listened to the Sgt Pepper album at 45rpm....but that was only because the drugs made us do it.

All conditions being equal, 45 for me.

Surprisingly, the second half of "Layla" by Derek and the Dominos - where the piano kicks in - sounds pretty good at 45 RPM. An FM radio station in St. Louis used to use this as the theme for their news reports in the early 70s.

How many tried playing the LP version of Atlanta Rhythmn Section's "Imaginary Lover" at 45 RPM? Sounds like Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac!

Tangerine Dream - 'Ricochet'. Did it many a time years ago. Accidentally at first but it sounded good so I carried on.

Yes, when a song is sped up. We have enough threads here about how some tracks/albums sound better when mastered for 45rpm, especially with various new remasterings.

I played a few tracks from Bringing It All Back Home at around 20 RPM a while back and it sounded wicked. Once you slow it down like that you can really hear the brilliance in Dylan's phrasing. No joke.

Herb Alpert's "Rise" became a UK hit at 45rpm. They didn't realize they were supposed to play it at 33rpm and there was no vocal to indicate otherwise. After having heard it that way, I can understand why. It's kinda cool that way.

"Not Fragile" by BTO sounds like Rush on 45.

  14. Since this was an earlier thread to the newest one, I thought I would post my full version of the pitch shifted "Imaginary Lover" re-imagined in Stevie Nicks style. I made it and the youtube video tonight. It is shifted 2.742 semitones.

I read the thread title the way you state it first, "a 33 1/3rpm LP track spun at 45rpm". What a great idea- seeing what records people like better when played at a faster speed. We should do this some time!

Some Beach Boys ballads sound pretty good sped up to 45. You'd think it was a girl group.

Back in the Stock, Aitken and Waterman days a radio station played a Kylie Minogue single, and when it had finished he played it again at 33rpm - and it turned into Rick Astley!

Tom Jones album cut "You Keep Me Hangin' On" played at 45rpm sounds just like Cher. :agree:

  24. I don't know about speeding up, but if you play the 45 of Janet Jackson's "Nasty" at 33.3 it sounds like RuPaul fronting a funkier version of the Swans.

Check this out, I know it's the other way around (45 at 33) but dang!
I've listened to this a lot since a friend of mine shared it on Facebook.
