Today's announcement about a few more summer dates plus Dick's states that "There will be no additional dates announced for summer or fall." So I guess Chicago came together but not CA. http://phish.com/news/additional-summer-dates-dicks-labor-day-run-announced/
I'm going to probably 5 or 6 Baker's Dozen shows, plus Dick's. I'm really hoping they try for no repeats at MSG - could lead to some real magic.
I may end up trying for a night at Northerly Island, but we'll see. Dry Goods said pre-orders for St. Louis '93 start shipping today, I'm hoping to see that come through this week.
As much as I hate to lose Alpine, I think that's a smart move. Northerly Island isn't a perfect venue, but it's a fifteen minute walk from my office and on a gorgeous summer night it's wonderful to feel the breeze off the lake and see the skyline in the distance.
I just got an email from Dry Goods this morning to say these are "almost gone", so I wonder if there was an unmentioned limited quantity or something. Odd. I've never really seen that with Phish archival boxes before. In a slightly aggravating, first world problems sort of thing, I check my shipping status update and now see it's scheduled to arrive by end of the day next Tuesday. Not the end of the world, but I hate pre-ordering something and not having it show up unit 4 or 5 days after I could have just bought it in person.
My only beef with Norherly Island is you can't see the stage from the 'lawn'. They have plenty of screens, but it was a bit of a bummer when I saw them 2 1/2 shows there in 2013.
I might have my timing wrong, but I believe just after you were there they renovated to improve the site lines. I'm finding articles that says this was done in 2014, so you may want to give it another shot. I was last there that summer and didn't find the lawn views to be as awful as they had previously been. Still not ideal, but improved.
Working on the 3/8/17 Northampton show in the app. I'm only through Silent in the Morning so far but it's an enjoyable listen. The chit chat and storytelling between certain songs is nice too. Sounds like a relaxed atmosphere.
I was at the Gorge in '97 as well, but also unaware of the Tweezer gap until now. What a venue - unfortunately I have not managed to make it back there again yet.
Listened to the first disc of Chicago '94 last night. Boy, man, they were on fire that night. Page must have been really high as his vocals on It's Ice are bizarre, but the out of nowhere improvised jam in that tune was amazing. Maze was also fantastic. Am I the only one who hates the long pause in Divided Sky? It always seemed hokey to me, and it has wasted countless minutes of my life when I could have been listening to music. That comment aside (which applies to any version of Divided Sky after a certain point -- 1993??), this is a stunning show.
I put the DSky pause in the same bucket as Drums/Space: Very cool if you are there, but a little annoying for home listening. Re: St. Louis 93, I'm very impressed with these shows. I was unfamiliar with them previously despite listening to most of August 93, but there is some really fantastic playing. The Reba is AMAZING.
Without me checking, how long is the Reba? A good Reba should be about 14.30, including whistling. Those are the rules, right?
I'm so jealous! I'm still waiting for my pre-order to get it, looks like tomorrow if the tracking information is to be believed.
