If that source came in the form of a card then I'd start rethinking what 'Coming Soon' actually means! :righton:

It's as much a Paul album as AHDN is a John album.

If the mythical Sgt. Pepper's first and middle names were known to us, I think they would be James and Paul respectively...

GM GM is one the best rock tracks on the album. Essential IMHO.

It's actually more rocking on the Anthology.

I love the stripped-down version of "Good Morning Good Morning" on Anthology, but it's missing the guitar solo that puts the song over the top.

Pointing out that the tapes were untouched for a month, the liner notes say: "because it was complete and included an overdubbed John Lennon vocal, it is reasonable to assume that . . . it was considered to be the master." I'm not buying it. The track is "complete" but obviously unfinished - the title phrase is missing, for one, and there are several bars in the middle that were obviously left uncluttered to make space for a solo of some kind. There's no way the Beatles and George Martin considered the Anthology version to be a finished master. I think it's more likely that they weren't sure about the song (or what to do with it) so they set it aside to work on other material. I know John had very unkind words about the track in later years.

That being said, the Anthology version of "Good Morning..." is very enjoyable despite, and because of, its unfinished state. It's an X-ray of the song, showing the bones and connective tissue without all the fur covering it up. If the 50th anniversary Pepper contains more stuff like this, I'll be pleased.

This thread and the prospect of a Sgt. Pepper 5oth anniversary release has motivated me to do a lot of Pepper listening and reading. (I've not really listened to the album for many years).

I've watched my old VHS tapes of "The Making of Sgt. Pepper" and "It was 20 Years Ago" TV specials that aired on the Disney Channel many years ago.

I've listened to Sgt. Pepper album, Anthology Pepper tracks, YSS Songtrack tracks, and my Strawberry Fields bootleg album.

I've read George Martin's "Making of Pepper book, Derek Taylor's "It Was 20 Years Ago Today" book, and just dug out and looked over Bill Harry's Sgt. Pepper photo book. (I'd forgotten I even had that one). Learned a lot and lots of great photos too.

I've seen that thing once. And that was once too often.
I do have the LP, which has a couple of good renditions on it. (Although I will deliberately NOT listen to it again anytime soon...maybe forever.)

But it's a "fantastical Musical Adventure"!!

Is there another project that killed so many careers?

Getting Better & She's Leaving Home have significant contributions from John

I agree that Paul's medley concept on Abbey Road is his best contribution to a Beatles album

For me John's songs + George's and She's Leaving Home are the highlights.
