Jazz for me, too. Getting more and more into it as I get older. Also, becoming more interested in 1960s Psychedelia/Garage. I've been picking up several compilation box sets (Rubble, Trash Box, etc) and quite enjoy them sound quality aside.

Heck, the other day I listened to Belafonte at Carnegie Hall for the first time and really enjoyed it. In my younger days, I never would have willingly listened to something like that. Things change.

What is this mythical "dial" everyone is talking about? What is this ancient dialect you speak?

Nah, I tried the radio in my car for the first time in a couple of years just out of curiosity to see if maybe it had gotten better. Within 30 seconds I was hitting the CD button again.

My wife bought me a subscription to Sirius, so that helps my choices somewhat in the car.

Oh, well that explains it. Just plain old FM in my car. World of difference I'm sure.

When I got tired of '60s oldies (like when they played Hanky Panky or something) I would hit the rock station.

It's not so much that I tire of rock, I've just given up on commercial radio. I refuse to listen to the same 50 songs
that were being played on a similar station 30 years ago, give or take a few newer songs that somehow managed
to become canonized by the suits in San Antonio. And then you have contemporary rock stations that think
they are pushing the envelope when they play a 20+ year old song by Nirvana. Wooooo-hooooo.

So I load the car up with CDs or listen to NPR or college radio.

First, I haven't listened to commercial music radio since the early to mid 1980s. I can't stand the narrow playlists, and I can't stand the commercials.

However, I do listen to music radio occasionally--just non-commercial music radio. At home, there are only three music stations I'll listen to. In order of my preference:

    (1) WBGO | The Jazz Source

    (2) 89.5 WSOU FM - Seton Hall's Pirate Radio

    (3) WFMU-FM 91.1/Jersey City, NJ; 90.1/Hudson Valley, NY – We're an independent freeform station broadcasting at 91.1 fm in New York, at 90.1 fm in the Hudson Valley, and with gobs and gobs of online offerings.

I linked to them so you can check them out--they all stream (as do most radio stations now). I live in NYC and my studio is in Jersey City, though, so I usually listen to them the "old fashioned way" when I listen to them, as most of the time I listen to them when I'm driving or biking or hiking or something lke that.

I also listen to a lot of sports-talk (either NYC's WFAN or Miami's WQAM, which I have to stream when I'm not in Miami--I grew up in Miami, so I'm a huge fan of the Miami teams (Dolphins, Heat, Marlins, Panthers), and I still visit Miami/South Florida often as I have tons of family there), and occasionally other talk radio, NPR, etc., but I don't listen to those so often.

There's a local community station that has good blues and Texas country/bluegrass programs. Jazz, classical, NPR, sports talk, pretty much anything but current mainstream country.
