I don't like the "new" mastering. The bonus medley also sounds terrible. I'm happy with my EOTC-version.
What's the most affordable way to get a good sounding version of this album? The EOTC CD? The Rhino 2004 LP?
I just canceled my pre-order for the limited edition blue vinyl and ordered a NM original mono LP off Discogs. I might have the Sinatra bug.
The 2010 UMG Euro CD is the same as the 1998 Reprise EOTC version: Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim by Frank Sinatra, Antonio Carlos Jobim: Amazon.co.uk: Music Or: Frank Sinatra, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Claus Ogerman - Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim - Amazon.com Music
Just wondering about Larry Walsh and his work. Why has he done such a great job on the Sinatra stereo Capitol albums back in the late 80s and early 90s....and now his work for Concord or on the recent Sinatra/Jobim album is so bad??? (Vocals super dry /lifeless for example, "The Concert Sinatra" mastering is a total desaster)
Original CDs are out there for cheap: Buy Frank Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim - Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim (CD) at Discogs Marketplace . LPs, too.
Thanks! I' looking forward to it. I'm trying to find out via another post in the Audio Hardware forum whether or not I can play this old mono record with a modern, elliptical stylus meant for stereo records. I also ordered an old mono copy of Where Are You. Should I be fine playing those two records with a stereo stylus?
Thanks! Another forum user said an elliptical stylus would scrape the bottom of an old mono record, which freaked me out.
Curiously, the bonus session sounds cleaner than tracks 1-10 (nice reveal of the drum work.) Is it possibly a different remix? This also seemed to be the case with Strangers Expanded Edition, the bonus track being lighter/clearer. The first ten tracks sound buried under a layer of dust, weird processing, pushed vocals, etc.
Listening to my EOTC CD is like a breath of fresh air compared with the "dusty" compressed 50th Ann. Edition.
That's exactly how I felt when I started A/B-ing things (not just with the EOTC, but with other versions as well).
I just noticed that the original mix of "Ipanema" is heard on the 16-track CD version of "New York New York - His Greatest Hits".
Yes, this is quite an interesting disk. Mostly dubs from x-th generation tapes. Unfortunately, the "Strangers" on there also has the mixing error...
