Not "perfect"; no mono "Stone Free" of course, ugh!
    Prefer the Japanese Polydor:
Jimi Hendrix - The Singles Album
    Cool cover too!!

His fans deserved a release such as this for a long time. Only benefit in waiting was sources.
Getting to hear specific studio sessions was a real revelation.

    Some fans like:
"S/T - The Jimi Hendrix Experience"
i didn't care for the "live" & studio cuts mixed together in the track listings. Nor was i impressed by the SQ.
Promo CD was a tastey treat tho!

"Sign of the Three Eyed Man"
was a trip fans well earned [buying multiple horrendous releases previously].
    My fave was:
    "Headstone - The Contact Sessions"
Liked the music/mixing/recording from the bands 1st studio endeavours.

    Adam Ant's B-Side Babies
Billy Idols's 11 of the Best of
Oh and The Hits Album (one) - Doesn't count I suppose because it LP only ;-)

Always loved The Doors "Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine". Great choices and it seems to flow just right.

I "liked" your post purely for the song selection and sound quality, but Bill Inglot dropped the ball on getting the correct versions. I don't know what the deal was, but some of the versions are so wrong on the CDs that I had to carefully replace them with the correct ones on my digital archives.

If you're not a stickler for getting history correct, you won't mind a few errors. But in no way can I even listen to an album version of "Fire" faded early on the sister series "Soul Hits Of The 70s". I had to replace it with the 45 edit.

I highly recommend the 10cc Greatest Hits and More double album. It covers most of the popular releases (and more) plus later Godley and Creme material.

It is also a very well mastered compilation, high sound quality - a touch on the loud side but very clear and detailed with real presence, particularly on tracks such as Good Morning Judge, Donna and Dreadlock Holiday.

Except that it is rare and expensive.

I do have a complete singles collection, but it's in the form of 320 kbps mp3 files. :( The good thing is that the producer/engineer took great pains to ensure that the correct single versions were used.

I was ready to dispute this as I really don't like compilations with various singers on them and I did think this one wasn't chronological for some reason but after looking at the tracklisting on Wiki there's pretty much no doubt this is a great selection of the very best tracks the band did and a fair representation from each album and period. Plus the SQ is supposed to be A1 so I guess you're right!!

Great thread. I'll add Tom Petty Greatest Hits. Sure, it misses some favorites like, You're So Bad, but it sounds good and it was a great way to get the material at the time. Plus, it introduces Mary Jane's last dance.

Let me once more give a thumbs-up for the best single-artist compilation ever done - This is the Moody Blues (2LP/2CD).

For starters, it culls songs from the seven 'classic' MB albums (1967-1972), which makes up for a cohesive listen, because soundwise these tracks gel very well. I'm not sure if it contains all the singles they released up to 1974, the year this album came out. Although I can't think of any that were omitted. But that's not the point. Most songs segue into each other in a new and different way than they did on their original albums. Some songs even are remixed. It gives this compilation such a smooth flow that it almost sounds like an original album release. Lots of thought and effort was put into this comp, resulting in an album that a fan needs beside the 7 core albums from that era. On top of that, both the vinyl and the CD version sound very good. To my knowledge, there was/is only one CD mastering, which dates back to the late 80s.

Which version? The one with Something In The Air or Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. In addition, the U.K version contains the extra track Anything That's Rock 'N' Roll.

I've enjoyed every bob Dylan comp I've ever had. Biograph is excellent and the one that came out last is very good. The new broken throated tunes mixed in with old stuff really works well for me.
