Which is why I said "no idea how that could happen given the nature of ADT". However, if they put the stereo master onto the multis (was Pro Tools even a thing in 1998?) and I have read interviews describing Peter Cobbin hunched over a mixing desk with headphones copying things to tape then it's possible. Sync to track 2 instead of track 1.

The idea was to make Brian sound younger, thereby more vulnerable. Be cause of all the things Brian needed was to be more vulnerable.

  6. I must say, your avatar matches this post perfectly!

I listened to the two songs on Spotify, and on my crappy computer speakers, I can't tell if they're better, worse, or the same as the previous mixes. Guess I'll have to wait for the blu-ray. As a bass player who was inspired by Paul McCartney's bass work with the Beatles, I say bring on the bass!

Interesting. Even easier to sync to the wrong track then.

Wouldn't they need to 'demix' since most of the source tapes have gone AWOL

I don't dislike the new mixes of Sgt Pepper and With A Little Help. But i like YSS mixes more.

I just listened to the 4 tracks on Spotify using my iPhone's digital out into Klipsch x20i headphones, which BTW are really spectacular IEM's. The added bass is a little strange and I simply think it is because this LP is burned into my aural memory having listened to it for now almost 30 years. So I think I'll get use to it. :) But the main thing is that the more present bass and drums presents the record as more of a Rock N Roll Album than an "art" record.

However, the big discovery for me after listening to the WALHFMF Take 1 and Take 2 is how much Pet Sounds was a huge influence on Sgt Peppers! Consulting with my wife, we seem to think there are moments of Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows and even some Good Vibrations making an appearance.

  13. I've never noticed that. But if course next time I will. I really love the mixes on the YSS

    So is 'Yesterday'.

There was no price differential as far as I remember. I even bought the stereo Rubber Soul by mistake because stereo discs tended to be special orders and the shopkeeper had obviously been sent an incorrect batch. I can still remember her saying there was no 'repeats' on it (i.e. no singles). It sounded a lot different when I finally bought the red box.

So how do you explain the fact that bass and drums were often hotter in mono mixes than in stereo mixes?

Oops! Well I guess that when you anticipate something, you are looking forward to it.

The thing is that this is a remix and as such, one should "anticipate" changes, like the greater presence of bass and drums.

I don't understand the objection that decision.

Listen to the end of She's Leaving Home, and you'll hear a bit of Brian Wilson there, too.

I DO like them. They are fine. I just like the YSS ones more. I don't think Giles did a bad job at all.
Multiple fine stereo mixes of Beatles material. What's not to like :)

I'm not throwing away my YSS, no matter what Giles does. They will need to learn to live together on my shelf.

I don't think Giles ever would have done Baby You're A Rich Man the way it's done on YSS though. That's an example of what's possible thinking outside the box.

There is nothing to explain. The hotter mixes got more returns than the colder mixes but they still did not contain the proper amount of bass and drums.
