I really like Krautrock because its so creative and almost always interesting. Can is one of my top favorite bands maybe even my favorite though its hard to decide between them and Frank Zappa. I'm also big on Kraftwerk and Faust.

Yeah, I love Krautrock. Can, Cluster, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dreams, Amon Duul II, and even some of David Bowie's albums (Station to Station, Low, "Heroes", and Lodger) have some basis in the Krautrock genre.

I really like Amon Duul II, but haven't dug the other stuff I've heard nearly as much.

I find krautrock quite interesting. Experimental and free form, like jazz, but with the use of modern technology and basis on rhythm, at the end of the day crossed over to the prog audiences that were willing to listen, due to its scope.

I plan to listen to some more some day down the road, all I'm familiar with currently is some Can.

Krautrock is one of those topics where eventually everything will be recommended;)

A couple of books worth a look if you are into this:

Krautrocksampler by Julian Cope - a highly entertaining and obviously biased overview from the former driver behind The Teardrop Explodes - great read.

Future Days by David Stubbs - a great overview of the genre.

No. The term refers to the more experimental and often electronic bands that emerged in the late 60's in Germany and continued into the 70's - Can, Faust, Neu!, Kraftwerk etc. It does not mean some German rock band copying UK or US blues based rock music.

Has anyone bought the krautrock & progressive boxset?
Just looking for opinions. Is it too cheap to be any good?

VARIOUS ARTISTS - Krautrock & Progressive Box Set - Amazon.com Music

I have the 2 compilations soul jazz released. Just looking for something else.
I read reviews of a few other krautrock comps & most seemed to get middling ratings.

  15. Its more UK prog than 'Krautrock', though it does delve into some of the spacier, progressive or proggier realm of 70s German rock as opposed to the motrik realm.
