I like Front 242! Here is the headhunter 12" with Welcome to Paradise B side. Funny aside: my brother and I thought headhunter was like this cool violent assassin song. Turns out it is about corporate headhunting. Lol

  10. Off "Goth":
Well it was early on in the sub-sub-genre "Heavy Metal" scene. You know how that goes... "Punk" is the 'New Wave' [p.i.], so every one is "Punk" [i.e. George Thorogood, Tom Petty, Joe Jackson, etc... ].

Think it was the time "Possessed" broke; being a SF paper & them a SF band.

If i remember right, one of the characteristics of the genre was under 3 minute songs. W/a band mentioned, if memory serves, doing songs under 2!!

Hence, the speed in "Speed Metal" [beyond the playing]!
    Ha, ha!!

Reason i would remember anything bout one article, so very long ago, was i was raised "Christian"; so the band's name has been stuck in my brain ever since!!!

    Oh what the hell!
    Proto-Goth?

  14. So funny!!!
Danced to that like a hundred times!
Really, been to one "Goth" club over 800 times!!
Never knew who it was. Had a very buzzy "Buzzcock" sound that i always liked tho.

    General:

Really enjoying the thread & not jiust cause of all the great music. Cause i'm learning the bands & songs i've been dancing to for thirty plus years [in some cases]. 1st regular "Goth" club i went to was in '97 [tho some of these tunes go back to "New Wave" club days]; at 1st would stop dancing after a cool new song [to me] & ask the DJ what it was. After a few months tho, would just continue dancing never knowing the song, let alone the artist.

    Thanks everyone.

Rose Mcdowall was one half of strawberry switchblade She also worked with Death in June, Boyd Rice, David Tibet, and Current 93. Although poppy sounding, much of her work was rather dark. Cut You With the Cake Knife is a perfect example.

Here she is with Boyd Rice as Spell, a one off collaboration of covers. One fine looking witch!

For me, it doesn't much better than Siouxsie and the Banshees live at Warwick Uni, March '81 (BBC Rock Goes to College). A band at the absolute peak o its powers!
