Blue Mitchell - Bantu Village (1969) Original '69 Blue Note BST 84324 (blue & white labels, Div. of Liberty) Recorded at Ray Charles' RPM Studios, Los Angeles My first night back on the night shift and it was a ferocious night. This fun and funky funky LP is paired with a glass of daiginjo-grade sake (the top-shelf stuff). Here's to relaxing!
Blue plays some great trumpet. His sideman work on Tina Brooks' Back to the Tracks is stellar. Haven't heard (or heard of) this one, will have to check it out.

I listen to this lp all the time!!!! I love the whole vibe, Miles & the band were on fire. I usually start with "My Man's Gone Now" because of the mixture between the "old & new." What a great record.

(LP Vogue Schallplatten German Press Gatefold LDVS-17164) .... recorded in August 1968 .... Johnny Griffin (ts) + Sahib Shihab (bs) + Benny Bailey (tp, flh) + Åke Persson (tb) + Francy Boland (p) + Jimmy Woode (b) + Kenny Clarke (dr) .... keep returning regurarly to this tight unit (personelwise basically a small scale edition of the Clarke-Boland Big Band) .... (IMO) this is easily one of the best Johnny Griffin recording of the 60`s and Benny Bailey is simply magnificent here .... a true asset is the fabulous rhythm section .... superb sounding german Vogue vinyl press from 1968 - thankfully reissued nowadays on the Rearward/Ishtar Label ....

I only have 3 Speakers Corner albums, all by Herbie Hancock (Flood, Man-child, and Crossings) and all I really like, I've been considering the SC reissue of Miles Smiles too. However, so far at least, the OCD part of me has prevented the compulsively Miles collecting part of me from getting it because a MFSL edition would fit in better with all of the other Miles MFSL albums on my shelf should MFSL ever release Miles Smiles. (I do have Miles Smiles on CD, so it's not like I'm depriving myself of this music over this triviality).
