Rich Man's Spiritual, from Gordon Lightfoot's major label debut "Lightfoot!" is also a classic.

How is it lost in time? That's classic Duran Duran. Doesn't have to chart in the US in order to be a classic song.

  7. The Fat Man - Fats Domino (released as a single late 1949, was first track on Fats' debut album Carry On Rockin' in 1955 later reissued as Rock and Rollin' With Fats Domino)

Do debut album that are "instant classic" exist that don't have a first song that became an "instant classic" ?

You know what? I'm gonna do something that's never been done in an internet forum...admit I was wrong! :yikes:

You'd be be hard-pressed to find someone who knows that song, but you could say the same about Miranda Lambert's "Kerosene", mentioned upthread.

Both songs (including the videos) were perfect introductions to the artist's music, and have a special place among fans. I officially declare them classics! :bdance:

  13. True. but none of those examples fit the premise of the thread (debut album).

Hate to be nitpicky but...wouldn't MkII's debut album really be the Concerto? :)
