Song #6 with an epic instrumental intro, which recurs, that would be the envy of traditional metal bands.
Local version of Ebay has this american BM CD for U$ 15 (used) . Very Burzum-influenced; listened to it on Ytube and loved it. Wished I could lay hands on something more american-sounding, but would like to know fellow black-metaller's opinions please :
Saw YOB live front and center in small local clubs in Portland more times than i can remember. Just crushing yet epic!!
Have been giving this a lot of playtime recently : Easily my favourite death metal album. Brutally heavy, obscenely technical, and Flo Mournier's "Gar Samuelson on uppers" drumming gives the whole affair a sense of swing that is both rare and welcome when the tempos are this fast. To date, I do not think there is a heavier breakdown in recorded music than the one in "Graves of the Fathers" (Honourable mention to "Locust Reign" by Converge... or maybe "Frequency Ass Bandit" by Botch ... Hmm ...) Edit : It looks like there is a recent vinyl pressing of this. Might pick that up. Can't imagine it sounds great though...
I think it's beautiful. Gentler than Burzum. I don't know about ripoff as it isn't a carbon copy. Burzum and Darkthrone cast such long shadows of influence it's difficult to avoid as a band, I imagine. I was thinking of how best to ask you about the South American metal scene without being a well meaning ignorant who generalizes. Seems I can't escape my ignorance. Specifically I wanted to know if there are distinct differences between bands from different countries. I'm so hot for the upcoming album June 29th by Verthebral from Paraguay. It's so down to Earth it made me wonder about if there were national attitudes present in music. That album was my into to YOB and I totally fell in love with it. Something of a revelation, so soulful, it was on repeat for a full week. "Time to wake up" I couldn't tell you how many times I watch this particular vid. Love the involvement.
Back in the day (Lolz), us PDX DOOMheads would always say: :headbang emoji thingy: "YOB is Love!" :devil horns sign emoji thingy:
I too am curious to know more about South American metal. Unless they are Sepultura, we don't hear much about them up this way.
You're SO far from an ignorant man ! Ask all you want. Most extremes subgenres were BORN in Brasil, not in Argentina, but I'm quite knowledgeable anyway and we have a couple of local bands you might like. I see you're more into death and blackened thrash and I'm more into old and new-school black. You can always PM me if you don't want to post your questions.
Thanks. I've started casually (no hurry) browsing general info about the entire South American region, which being massive, is like slowly examining a Blue Whale with a magnifying glass. From Atahualpa and the Battle of Cajamarca to the El Ateneo Grand Splendid bookstore, it'll be a long term thing to have a general view and then fit metal into it. BTW, being in Toronto I hear at least a dozen different accents daily and my two favourite are from two Columbians and an Ecuadorian acquaintance. They are the most pleasurable to my ear. Maybe that they are women helps as they are charming persons and their conversation entertains me. I really should pick up the "Choosing Death" book again. I only made it one third the way in and got distracted by shiny things. Now playing

Colombian brutal death metal is where it's at: early Internal Suffering, Mindly Rotten, Ripping Flesh, Goretrade, the somewhat odd Ancient Necropsy. Definitely a very specific mood to cater to, though. I will add that Peru's Mortem put out an album last year, Deinos Nekromantis, that took the early Morbid Angel sound and made it even more grisly and severe. I think it was on a top ten list I made for another forum. Or maybe top twenty. Whatever, it slays. Oh and Ripper from Chile, of course. Excellent death/thrash, but I think they've come up before. Actually I may have already mentioned every one of the above bands; relentlessly jackhammering snare drums in the headphones does a number on my retention skills.
