For all the baby boomers who would scoff at the notion that some of these are legends: they've all been around for 25+ years and maintained their popularity and relevance.

To be fair, is there anyone who is a living legend to EVERYONE? You have countries where even The Beatles are irrelevant. But I think it's a pretty comfortable argument that if there were 20 or 25 indisputable living legends that Paul Simon is one of those given the volume of classics he's written both as solo and in his days with Garfunkel, as well as the fact that he's had amazing longevity, still putting out top 3 albums at the age of 75, nearly 60 years after his first chart single back in 1957. He was already a living legend by the time of Graceland.

I think calling people like Lopez a legend is a joke since she has always been a celebrity before a singer, but Madonna and Bono are both arguable regardless of ones opinion of their music or personas. U2 has been here since 1979 and Madonna since 1982 and both are still selling out stadiums and still putting out albums that aren't at the top of their game, but still are doing alright given how late in the game they are. I doubt in 1987 anyone would've believed that Madonna and Bono would still be making a killing in the live game in their late 50s, but they are. For us 80s kids, they are our living legends for sure.

Just to clarify, Kate Bush is a living legend in Great Britain - she's "Kate Who?" to most in the US. But Before The Dawn ticket sales produced newspaper headlines on virtually every paper in London.

Anyone who could get the Times, the Guardian and the Daily Mail to agree has to be considered a legend. Probably shortlisted for the Nobel Peace Prize as well.

Well, thats the thing. Not saying Paul Weller isnt magnificent at what he does, but I think "living legend" is a different status.

Very few left that are very well known. Dylan, McCartney (he was one of the main two Beatles and thats what gets him that status, whether he thinks is lies soley on that fact or not)

Legend has to go into that Elvis category. Or at least in that company. Paul Weller isnt in that group of elete.
