Welcome Back, Kotter is coming to Antenna TV in September. I thought you guys would want to know. :) I've never really seen the show before but I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Ooooh! Ooooh! It was a good show for its time, and before Travolta got "big." Then it went downhill fast.

Also, did I ever tell you about my uncle....?

I think a lot of the nostalgia comes from the theme song.

I saw a bunch of these recently and they don't hold up very well, IMHO.

But this is still one of my favorite moments from any 70's sitcom.

I rewatched some years later and its 75 percent catchphrases. and bad kotter jokes.

  6. Not that great the first time around...a few episodes from season one is all you really need before the scenario grew tired.

    Great theme song...

Saw the commercial for it a few days ago. I wonder what show Kotter will be replacing.

Epstein's Mother gave me a note saying I don't have to watch it.

You've never seen this show? How old are you? :p:D

I remember hearing Kaplan's "Sweathogs" routine before the series began, so I was looking forward to it!
I was in 6th grade when the show debuted. After seeing the first episode, I knew Travolta was going to be a big star.
I liked Marcia Strassman and Debralee Scott too!
I watched it until Babarino left, and some blond preppie took over. (Was it the same guy that replaced "Richie Cunningham"? They look the same, if I remember correctly)

I've seen the show a few times since then, and I'm not sure if it stands up. I'll try to see it on Antenna TV in September.

When I was growing up in Massachusetts I loved this show. It represented Brooklyn to me. So much so that when I first visited there I was disappointed that it didn't look exactly like the show.

That's how I felt when I came to NYC - but I was more upset after watching The Warriors growing upthat there were no Baseball Furies.

This thread got me thinking....(Warning: Off-Topic)
I wonder if SNL would even, if Daniel Radcliffe was a guest, do a sketch called "Welcome Back, POTTER"
Dress him up in a curly wig and mustache, and have four guys called 'the SWEATHOG-WARTS'!
or, would today's kids even 'get it'?

Today's kids would not get it because the show hasn't even been in re-runs nationally very much in the last 10 or so years.

But that doesn't mean the idea isn't funny. :)

"Good Times" will always be Chicago to me, as will "Eight Is Enough" for Sacramento, and WKRP for...Cincinnati!

I saw Kaplan do standup at a local casino back in the late 90's. The whole show was the story of the show. The catchphrases were all over the curtains surrounding the area. Glad I saw him.

Of all the "who-thought-THIS-was-a-good-idea" revamps we've seen recently, this one I think, would make an especially tasty property to dust-off and update. And, they should get Sam Eliot to play Kotter. :D

"Welcome Back Kotter" had a run in the past year or so on MeTV too.

Oh! I didn't know that. I watch more of Antenna TV than METV or else I guess I would have seen at least promos for it on METV awhile ago. Oops!

I'm not making this up, but I recall a few years back, they were talking about reviving "Kotter" with (I think) Ice Cube playing the Gabe Kaplan role.

I'm pretty sure the guy you're referring to is named Stephen Shortridge who played Beau, so no, it's not the same guy who played Richie Cunningham's replacement, that's Ted McGinley (sp?)

I could see that maybe working. He is a pretty good actor.
