    Dear Friends,

We are very sad to announce that one of our most beloved and respected artists, Geri Allen, is gravely ill. Her family and her long-time manager Ora Harris have asked us to post this message and request that you please hold all communications with Ora and the family members until further notice. Please allow them their privacy at this sensitive time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Geri and her family at this difficult time.

Damn, got to see her live a few times. She was an inspiration to me with her playing.

Wow. How terrible! I had no idea that she was sick. A legend, and at such a young age. Was just listening to "Etudes"... Very sad day.

Finest piano player of her generation, and the one after.

So sad. RIP. Glad to have had the opportunity to see her at the Iridium years ago with Wallace Roney.

Just shocking. I've been listening to her since her early albums although I've lost touch with her music in more recent years.

A stark reminder to see your music heroes as soon as you can.

Far too young, but she left a legacy, to be sure.

I just played all her trio albums a few weeks ago, so sad. Saw her play with Ornette at Lincoln Center once.

Same, although I lost touch more than a few years ago. No reason other than life getting in the way. See your heroes indeed.

    NOOOOOOOO ! ! !

This is terrible. That she was even uncomfortable with illness is terrible. I had no idea.

I'm privileged to have seen her exactly once, accompanying Laurie Anderson.

Her ACS trio was on my must-see list; I thought it was in the bag.

    Nothing is in the bag.
