this Saddlerack show has LONG been one of my favorites... anyone who hasnt heard this show should give it a shot for sure, it doesn't disappoint!!
Digging the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band/Black Mountain Boys MK II 1987 stuff more and more. I should prolly grab that new set soonish.
General Question: If this is the Garcia/Kahn/Hopkins/Tutt version of the JGB (and it's right in that time frame) who is singing backup on this track?
Ron Tutt...very similar to the version on Let It Rock - also November '75 (on which Tutt is credited with drums & vocals).
Thanks - I don't have that set, it was sold out before I returned to the Garcia band fold. Meanwhile, here's the 'GGB' with Hunter doing 'Promontory Rider'
Thanks to the Trixie Garcia AMA I got turned on to this performance: "Latino Session" with Carlos Santana. Part 2 with Ruben Blades is good too (Q.V.)
Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders - 1972-02-06 Pacific High Studio, San Francisco, CA Really hope to see this get an official release soon. One of my fave Jerry tapes back in the 90's.
As I get further into it, some of the songs like Tangled Up in Blue Looks like he was having fun up there, smiling and moving around. We miss you Jerry.
I don't remember reading much about that, just that they had some surprises planned. I posted in the Grateful Thread it kind of reminded me of the scene in Family Guy where Stewie goes to the star trek convention and all the questions are about mundane crap. One of the first questions was about a Phish song, 'did Trey write it about meeting you at FTW?' when the song was first recorded 6 months before the FTW concerts! There was a lot of 'what was it like going to high school with Jerry as your dad,' 'was there some show or movie you guys watched together' etc. Which I get, but I would have been all 'what's Garcia Live 10?' 'What about rare Garcia studio stuff like Keith and Donna or Hunter's Tiger Rose or the Tom Fogerty album, or maybe a compilation of some of his session work like that?' What was asked in that vein was not really answered anyway.
Listening to the 10-28-87 On Broadway Act One acoustic set CD1. I got to thinking: The crowd is in such ecstatic rapture that if Jerry passed gas, they'd squeal approval. Lols. Fun show. Amazing transparent sound. Yet another worthy purchase.
All the 90's studio Garcia/Grisman material has weathered the ravages of tyme well. Yet another facet of the Jerry Garcia mythos to explore and grin.
I believe this qualifies as a rave review of that release : Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders: Garcia Live Volume Six: July 5, 1973 I read elsewhere that Lion's Share had a capacity of 200, that would have been fun.
For gods sake give us a Reconstruction release. Get the licensing or what ever the hell is going wrong. Inexcusable.
Continuing on this afternoon with this one. Nine Pound Hammer with Matt Eakle on flute is a nice track.
Bit the bullet and ordered volume 9 from the official site. I got the T shirt package and since I had to pay the dreaded shipping fees I splurged and got guaranteed express. What the hay. Life is short. This is a grate show.
