I'm sitting here listening to this album and for me its basically a flawless record. I can't find any faults, I love every song on it. Its gotta be their best studio album, right?

In Color has pretty much been my main "go to" album since it was released (70s AOR production and all.) Can't go wrong with the first three though really.

Heaven Tonight is Cheap Trick's most satisfying album. It leaned a little more toward AOR where the previous In Color leaned toward power-pop, but overall, the songwriting is stronger. My friends and I couldn't get enough of it at the time.

I'm with you on this one. Flawless to me, too.

My favorite cd version used to be the Sony Super Bit Mapping version from Japan in the mid 90's.
In fact it's been one of my favorite cd's out of thousands I own. It has some quality that mesmerizes me. Perhaps it's because it sounds so analog and warm along with a 3-D soundstage. Bun E's drums sound wonderful. I think I'll put it on right now!

Indeed. Heaven Tonight is no slouch but their debut is the one to beat.

Either Heaven Tonight or Dream Police for me; but then, Dream Police was the second album of theirs I heard, back in junior high. I listened to it all the time then and in high school. I got Heaven Tonight and the first two albums later.
It is pretty perfect - I think Takin' Me Back is the most sorely overlooked song on it.

But I still go back and forth with this and Dream Police as my favorite studio album of theirs.

...and then the live breakthrough of At Budokan served as an explosive early-career recap.

Both "In Color" and "Heaven Tonight" are my favorite pop back-to-back two-fers; this side of Big Star's first two albums.

I love Heaven Tonight but the debut is perfect. Perfect for me, in the sense that I can't think of a well-recorded album where there is unbelievably catchy songs played by a band with reckless abandon at the top of their game without a producer (somewhat at least) imposing their idea of the band. To me the debut is everything I want in a rock record; b***s out playing with top-notch tunes. BUT-Heaven Tonight is really, really great.

Debut for me as well, which is a recent occurrence... it was Heaven Tonight for years but I now find the debut to be my favorite....

In Color and their debut are just as good.

Exactly, the debut has such a raw sound to it. Starting immediately with In Color it's as though the rough edges were sanded down. Granted, I love all of their material up to and including Dream Police, but after their first album they were never quite as ferocious again.

It's probably my personal favorite but at the same time it's the only one of the first three that has a song I don't like...'On The Radio' if anyone's wondering.

So then it's down to either the first or the second, both of which are perfect albums. It's tough to choose between them but I have to go with In Color...

Also gotta go with the debut. HT might be #2, though!

Excellent album. I listen to In Color most but the first three (plus the live one) are all great.

Every album from the debut through All Shook Up would get a 5/5 from me, but I'd rank the debut as their #1.

Heaven Tonight is definitely in the top two. I go back and forth between In Color and Heaven Tonight....but those first three were all just incredible.

I should have said I listen to The Latest most but of the early albums I like In Color best.
