If some footage somehow ends up being found, then I'm doubt that the lineup of Rush without Geddy Lee from mid-1969 would be received too well. They'd probably be worth checking out for curiosity's sake though.

Blood, Sweat & Tears (New Blood etc lineup/s)
    Return to Forever (Musicmagic lineup)
    Fairport Convention (Short-lived 1976 lineup)
Jethro Tull (after the Fairport guys left)
    Supertramp post-Hodgson
The Hollies with Mikael Rickfors (though that was really good)
    Mountain (all post-Felix lineups)

The Pipettes, after Rosay and Riot Becky left. Interesting to see Gwenno getting some love as a solo artist, after that all ended in a whimper.

While their first post-Butler album was their biggest, and they're still a commercially viable group, a lot of Suede fans (including me) never really got on with the post-Butler lineup.

Ten Years After-- Joe Gooch lineup. Surprisingly good band, if you can accept TYA with anyone other than Alvin Lee.

The guy they have now sucks, though.

Steve Vai era Whitesnake (personally speaking)
    Doggie White era Rainbow
Rowan Robertson and Tracy G era Dio
Tonight's the Night era Neil Young & Santa Monica Flyers (not the fault of the band)
    Zoom era ELO
    Born Again era Black Sabbath
    Post Lou Gramm Foreigner

I believe the outcry was due to the album cover and the sound quality.

I read stories of a fans not liking Sabbath playing Smoke on the Water and one fan throwing their wheelchair on stage in protest

The Stone Roses' Brown/Ibrahim/Mounfield/Ipinson/Maddix lineup never really had a chance to nurture, did they

Spirit with the Staehely brothers instead of Randy California (although, after bashing Feedback in some past threads, I find myself enjoying it a bit lately)

There was a lot of Crue fans that hated John Corabi replacing Vince Neil, but he did a great job with them in concert.

I once expressed my dislike for Brent, and a friend, a really nice woman, gave me this nasty look.
That's when I got the impression that one doesn't ever speak negative of the Dead -- period.
I really think many of their fans go by the maxim, "It's All Good."

Among metal fans on the Blabbermouth website, the very mention of Skid Row without Sebastian Bach garners an outpouring of negative posts from the site's mostly American readership. Overseas, fans seem to have much less of a problem with Skid Row using other singers.

The reunited versions of Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys without Henry Rollins and Jello Biafra are extremely controversial among punk fans.

If we're talking hardcore, how about Germs with Shane West.

Maybe some are like that, but most Dead fans I've encountered don't hesitate to criticize songs and band members (with Donna, Brent and Vince being the safest choices).

With Sammy Hagar, Van Halen had four #1 albums (a feat they had never managed once with Dave -- not even 1984 hit the top spot).

Their tours sold out every year. I'd say the Sammy Hagar era was VERY well received.

Gary Cherone, yeah. That was disastrous. But Sammy Hagar did really well with Van Halen.

The past 42 years must really have been a drag for those people.

It wasn't just him, it was the sudden switch from a Hammond dominated sound to a synth one.

The comments I've heard weren't critical of her on record contributions so much as her live capabilities, or lack thereof.

Siouxsie & the Banshees with Robert Smith. Most complaints seemed to come from Siouxsie though.

How about the TD lineups with Edgar's son Jerome in the band, and post-Jerome a bunch of hired guitar slingers?
