Exactly, when I picked up the box while it was still unopened, the cds were clanging around inside. I was wondering, WTF is loose in there?

Well now we know the packaging sucks, hopefully the sound quality will be excellent to make up for it. I miss the days when it seemed that all CDs came in decent jewel cases. Now it seems it's either the digipak or just a cardboard sleeve, and even jewel cases nowadays are cheap, light, and flimsy.

they could be released individually... hopefully in jewel cases.

however, even with some light complaining, we mustn't forget that time fades away has finally been released on a commercial CD.

I like uniformity but cardboard sleeves are more environmentally friendly

Shame it's not jewel cases. Japanese CD inner sleeves are a nice way to minimize scuffing from cardboard sleeves.

Most people don't even have a player that decodes HDCD anymore. I sure don't.

Everyone keeps saying cardboard sleeves - do we mean "mini-lp sleeves" like the first box with the gold discs had? Those were really sturdy and nice as I recall. "Cardboard sleeves" makes them sound thin and flimsy for some reason...

The attention to detail manufacturing-wise is...meh. Here's the upper right back of ZUMA. Glued strongly but only missed the join by nearly 1/4" :sigh:

I put the discs in antistatic inners and each title fits nicely in my resealable outer sleeves. I'm never going to shoehorn them back in those boxes again.

The new Decade didn't have the HDCD logo, but the discs are HDCD. Could be the same here.

the pono release was the original LP length, as was the last vinyl box. i would be very, very surprised if the CD was the inferior edited version.

There's different levels of quality, though - that's what I was asking. The el cheapo ones in these recent boxes of five or so albums by an artist <maybe those are considered "card sleeves"?> all the way up to the quality of the superb Japanese mini-lps. I referred to the ones in the first NY box in this series with the gold discs, 1-5. Those looked very nice indeed and were sturdy as well.

Where do digipacks fit into this spectrum?

Don't people sometimes call them "card sleeves"? (in error, maybe)

    Nice!

Just wanted to ask: what is the average price everyone is paying for each of these sets? Amazon UK have them for quite a lot of money (59.99 and 64.99 GBP). Import CDs seems have them for 32/36 USD but I never bought from them, are they reliable?

I've had a look at the sets in HMV today & they're NOT in jewel cases. It seems the only thing different between the US & UK versions is the HUGE price differential. I'm ordering from the US.
