    Probably cutting ties with the other obvious symbol,Capitol has gone backwards again,to reintroduce the 1969-76 Logo that has laid low for decades now! It's in Light and Dark Blue,BTW.

    Certainly looks like it . . . but it was actually in use to the end of '77, with some 45's as late as January 1978 using it . . .

    True, or could have spent the same outrageous amount paying a design firm to create a new one;
    "Hmmm, the letter "C".... It's so difficult to come up with a design...!"

    I never really liked the 'classic' Capitol logo (dome and stars). I remember (as a kid let loose with old shellac) all those UK pressed Capitol 78s with the words 'The Decca Record Co. Ltd.' underneath the logo (pre EMI, obviously). That logo always looked forbidding and self-important to me. But when I first saw the 'new' target Capitol logo in the early '70s (on a 45), I though it was a major improvement. Capitol suddenly looked very modern, very 'now'. I'm probably going against the general trend, but I welcome the return of the 'trendy' target design.

    UGH again!

    One of the most boring label designs of all time replaces one the best for a second time. What are they thinking?! If anything they should always keep the rainbow colours around the label. That looks very cool and timeless.

    I'll be the second here to say that I dig this new old logo. Brings back many childhood memories!

    I always though it was a deliberate copy of the COLGEMS logo.

    I think that ugly logo was designed by an art student post a bad hit of LSD myself. My least favorite Capitol logo design, but looked good on the Target labels, that hideous orange and gold vomit 1973 on label especially tasteless in the design department.

    Perhaps they think that this will make their profits return to 1970's levels... ;)

    Change the logo and money will follow...

    but I still think going back to the crappy "C" logo is a big no-no.

    It goes great with David Axelrod and 70s Cannonball Adderley, but it looks ridiculous with Sinatra or Wanda Jackson.

  24. I've always liked it, but I guess I was under the impression Capitol was no longer active. I really don't get the logo changes on any of the labels over the last 20 years. It's not like it matters, anyway. To me, they are just SONY, Universal and Warners now

    I think you're referring to "Label 72a" and "Label 72r" in this document:

    http://www.friktech.com/btls/capitol/capitollabels.pdf

    And I wholeheartedly agree with you that it is hideous. My reason for hating that design is because there are so many Beatle albums that I bought in the mid to late 1970s and I was expecting the Apple label because that was on the album cover, but instead got that ugly looking Capitol one.
